Fuel Oil Theft On The Increase

Oil Tanks

Gardaí in Co Tipperary are urging the public to be on the alert, following a series of thefts over the past number weeks in the south of the country, in which thousands of euro of central heating oil was stolen from private homes and business premises.

Soaring fuel prices and a ready market are mainly to blame for the increase in such thefts.

Thieves are targeting holiday homes, along with houses where home owners are away for a short period of time. Most of these thefts are, however, from larger premises, such as schools and business premises, according to gardaí.

Gardaí are urging home owners and businesses to secure their tanks with, at the very least, a strong locking device. People are also being asked to consider installing sensor lighting, within the area of their fuel tanks, as part of their theft prevention system.

Rural homeowners, churches and farmers are particularly at risk from thieves due to the isolation, in a lot of cases, of fuel tanks.
Premises who feel threatened, can also acquire a small wireless transmitter, which can be placed inside the screw cap of their oil tank. The magnetic reed switch on this device ensures that if the cap is opened or tampered with, the homeowner will be alerted by an audible alert from the security system.

Other advanced alarm systems can include the activation of outside security lights and the sending of SMS text messages to a Alarm Receiving Centre.

One Fianna Fáil Candidate For Tipperary North Election

Fianna Fáil

Fianna Fáil has decided to only run one candidate in the Tipperary North-South Offaly constituency, in next year’s general election following a meeting of the party’s representatives.

Following a party meeting in The Ragg, Thurles, delegates voted by a solitary vote, to put forward only one candidate in the upcoming election expected in February or March 2011.

Delegates debated the issue under two headings: (1)  proposal to allow three candidates to run or (2) proposal to allow a single name to be put forward on the party ticket.

The final decision came down to one vote, with the proposal to run one candidate just narrowly being agreed.

This now means that sitting North Tipperary TD, Maire Hoctor, and Fianna Fail county councillors, Michael Smith Jnr and John Hogan, look all set to contest the party nomination at the party’s re-scheduled selection convention on January 28th next.

Despite the fact that the Fianna Fail party is predicted to take a hammering in the up-coming General Election, it is difficult to see North Tipperary without a Fianna Fail representation, given the historical trend in the constituency.

Mr James and Mrs Ann-Marie Ryan.

Despite the snow and freezing weather conditions, the wedding took place yesterday of the very lovely Miss Ann-Marie Delahunty, daughter of Mrs Anne and Mr Billy Delahunty, Templetuohy, Thurles Co. The wedding ceremony took place in the historic 19th century Church of The Sacred Heart, in Templetuohy, with the ceremony presided over by Rev. Fr. Pat Murphy, ably assisted by Rev. Fr. Liam Everard.

Escorted down the aisle by her father Billy, the bride looked stunning in a champagne lace vintage afternoon bridal gown. Equally beautiful were her bridesmaids, Aoife Fogarty, Lucy Fogarty, Helena Loughnane and Maryanne Loughnane, all who wore full-length seasonal red evening gowns, highlighted by matching champagne waist bands.

The groom, James and his groomsmen, Liam Stapleton, John Paul Ryan, Joseph Fahy and Darragh Ryan, all looked dashing in their black evening suits, elegantly highlighted by white wing collared shirts and matching red silk cravats.

The brides Flower Girl for the ceremony was Miss Leah Delahunty escorted by Pageboy, Master Aaron Ryan.

The couple publicly exchanged their love for each other in front of a large gathering of family and close friends, and following the ceremony, the new Mr and Mrs Ryan retired to the popular wedding venue, the four star Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel in the heart of Kilkenny City, where guests were entertained to a champagne and strawberry reception, together with other assorted refreshments.

Following family photographs at Kilkenny Castle and within the hotel’s expansive foyer, the newly married couple joined their guests in the hotels ‘Kings Banqueting Suite’ for a lavish feast, which was followed by live music and dancing very late into the evening.

A video recording of the days events were undertaken by top videographer Mr Eamon Anglim.

The couple intend to spend their honeymoon visiting the second most populous city in the United States, Los Angeles, and the most populous city in Nevada, Las Vegas, followed by a cruise in the Caribbean Sea.

To Ann-Marie and James, go best wishes to you both for a happy, healthy and prosperous life together, from all your family and many friends here in Co.Tipperary.

Nenagh M7 Stretch Opens Next Wednesday

The dispute on the M7 Castletown/Nenagh stretch has been resolved. This clears the way for the opening of the final section next Wednesday.

Local Fine Gael TD Deputy Noel Coonan welcomed the news stating: “The blockade by contractors has been lifted, sub-contractors have been part-paid and as a result plans are in now in train for the section to finally opened next week, weather of course permitting. The dispute over the final section of the M7 has been settled and thankfully the roadway will open ahead of the New Year. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been lobbying the Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey, Fred Barry CEO of the NRA and Peter Carey County Manager of Laois County Council to intervene and work together to resolve threats which was preventing the stretch opening. I welcome the resolution of the dispute which has cleared the way for the planned opening of the roadway next Wednesday and hopefully present weather conditions will not intervene.”

This Design and Build scheme is high quality dual carriageway approximately 36 km in length. The existing N7 carriageway will remain in place to serve local road needs. The scheme started at the most easterly junction of the Nenagh bypass and finished at the Borris-in-Ossory interchange which will be constructed as part of the M7/M8 Scheme.

This project has been funded by the Irish Government under the National Development Plan and Transport 21 and by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
