 Eoin Kelly and Sarah Maher
Kilkenny launched their National Hurling League campaign under lights with a 1-17 to 1-10 win over Tipperary in a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland final.
Gearoid Ryan grabbed an early Tipperary goal, but the Cats hit back with a string of points, with John Mulhall and Michael Fennelly on top form, to lead by 0-13 to 1-7 at half-time.
Colin Fennelly’s second half goal set Kilkenny on their way to a Semple Stadium victory which reversed the outcome of last September’s dramatic Liam McCarthy Cup decider, making it a losing start for the new Tipp Manager Declan Ryan.
The Tipperary team were skippered by centre-back Conor O’Mahony, in the absence of Eoin Kelly, who missed his team’s crunch match tonight, having wed his long-term partner Sarah Maher in her home town of Ballingarry South just yesterday.
Team mates and friends turned up at the church in mixed weather to see Eoin and Sarah tie the knot, before the couple jetted off on honeymoon to Italy.
To Eoin and Sarah go best wishes to you both for a happy, healthy and prosperous life together, from all your many friends and supporters here in Co.Tipperary.

The latest January 2011 Live Register figure for the North Tipperary area now stands at 7,447 people. This represents a rise of over 200 % since the last General Election in 2007 and is further living proof of the neglect, which the Fianna Fail Government and the supporting Deputies who courted them, have enforced on Tipperary North, mainly through their basic political inability, personal greed and cute whorishness.
 Irish Talent Emigrating Daily
For those of you who genuinely worry about your futures, the futures of your children, wonder to whom you should entrust your Number 1 vote in the next General Election and who email this site on a daily basis, accusing me of political bias, please click Here.
Take the time required to read this well scribed, researched, nine page article, entitled “When Irish Eyes Are Crying” by outsider Michael Lewis.
Michael explains and identifies exactly who were the ‘stars’ of our present financial catastrophe. It confirms to us exactly what we already knew, but choose to accept, that a small number of high ranking trusted individuals have betrayed this nation, through their ignorance, their thirst for power, their lies, their attempts to cover up their treasonous acts, while making us, those who granted them their power, the laughing stock of the world.
When you have read this article, which I hope you will, I want you to go out and vote them back into power again if you dare, and many of you will, but be prepared to wave goodbye to your children at Shannon or Dublin Airport.
By the way, if there are any foreign countries looking in, our children, emigrating presently at the rate of 1,000 per week, are amongst the best educated and the most intelligent in the world.
Treat them well, use their knowledge, they come courtesy and at the expense of the hard pressed Irish taxpayer and an excellent Irish educational system, which, the latter has regrettably taught them that they must always work for someone else.
Councillor John Hogan (Moyne) has stated that the community of Moyne/Templetuohy are very concerned over the future of the Lisheen Mines and of the environment in the locality.
Mr Hogan stated: “I wrote to the C.E.O. of Anglo American, Ms. Cynthia Carroll, expressing the communities concerns over the terrible reputation that Vedanta Resources have in India. Amnesty International has written an in depth report on human rights and serious environment violations carried out by Vedanta Resources. The company also had the Tuticorin Smelter in India closed by the Indian courts. According to the Indian Judges Vedanta Resources violated the company’s operation permissions from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. In their verdict, Judges said the smelter was emitting noxious air pollution, that the plant’s effluents were hazardous and caused high levels of heavy metals, arsenic and fluorides in the groundwater and that the entire plant site was now “severely polluted”.
Another example of our fears in June 2009 a prestigious World Environmental award the “Golden Peacock” was withdrawn at the last minute after
demonstrators protested about the company’s highly polluting alumina refinery on the land of Kondh tribes in Orissa, India. Government pollution inspectors have commented on the ‘alarming’ and ‘continuous’ seepage of toxic waste from the refinery. Kondh people living near the refinery have told Survival International that they have suffered skin problems after bathing in polluted water, that their crops are choked by dust from the refinery and that cattle have died after drinking from polluted streams.”
Councillor Hogan added: “So far I have received a reply from Mr. Hennie Faul, Chief Executive Officer Zinc with Anglo American. Mr. Faul chose not to answer any of the allegations in connection with Verdanta Resources and instead stated that the costs associated with the Mine closure and rehabilitation plan, as well as the perpetual aftercare of Lisheen Mine are fully secured. This reply from Anglo American has added to the community fears, firstly because they sold us out to a company with issues that Anglo American are not willing to comment on. Also Anglo American are disingenuous in claiming that perpetual aftercare costs of Lisheen are secure when as a stake holder our community has not even entered discussions on the perpetual aftercare.”
Moyne/Templetuohy Community Parish Forum are meeting next Monday night to discuss and decide a future plan of action in relation to these issues.
