Its True – Olly Murs Has Got The HQ Factor

It’s true folks, we have it on very good authority, that the X Factor star Olly Murs has signed a contract to appear in Nightclub HQ in Thurles within the coming weeks.

When contacted separately today HQ Nightclub promoters, Pat Hayes and John Quinn were keeping silent, both refusing to either confirm or deny that Olly is booked to appear.

However sources close to Thurles.Info and within the music business have confirmed that the X Factor star will make an appearance within the coming weeks.

This news comes when just yesterday Olly received the ultimate compliment to his talents, when X-Factor guru and music industry mogul Simon Cowell, signed Olly up for two exclusive record deals with his record company Syco Music and Epic Records.
Sonny Takhar, managing director of Simon’s label, told BBC Newsbeat: “We are thrilled to be involved with Olly. As an artist he ticks every box.”

Despite finishing a close second to Joe McElldery in last year’s X-Factor final, Essex boy Olly Murs has more than convinced both UK and Irish audiences alike of his tangible star quality, helped considerably by his instinctively savvy stage performances, his naturally cool growling rock/pop vocal and his cheeky chappy mischievous grin.

This boys got talent, there’s no doubt about it. Girls want him and guys want to be him.
Olly’s currently hitting arenas and venues in the UK and Ireland as part of the X-Factor live tour but it looks like he’s being coaxed away from his busy schedule to make this appearance in Thurles’ own premier nightspot, HQ Nighclub.

Should these rumours be true, and our money says it is, it represents a major coup for HQ Nighclub and Thurles town and will be a night out not to missed.

Tipperary Schools Progress in 2010-12 Capital Programme

The Minister for Education and Science, Batt O’Keeffe TD, today [Tuesday] announced details of 52 school building projects which can now go to tender and construction as part of the Government’s €579 million school building programme.

Five North Tipperary schools are named, which had been earlier sanctioned to further progress their building work.

The schools named are Ursuline Convent, Thurles, – Nenagh VEC, – Borrisokane College, – Presentation Convent, Thurles and the Sacred Heart Primary School in Roscrea.

Borrisokane will also receive funds for a ‘Special Needs Autism Unit’. This unit is designed to compliment as a second level outlet to the recently announced special needs unit in Puckane National School.

Last year, over 32 large-scale projects in primary and post-primary schools were completed.

The Government’s capital programme for schools and colleges this year are forecast to create 7,300 jobs in the construction industry. (Well that’s according to the Minister for Education and Science.)

‘Last year 967 schools benefited from small-scale projects undertaken under the Summer Works Scheme, while 1,700 schools received the go-ahead to carry out works under the Energy Efficiency Scheme,’ said Minister O’Keeffe.

These projects nationally are expected to create 23,000 new school places for children, through the building of 20 new schools and extensions.

Thurles Supporting Fairtrade Fortnight 2010

Thurles was awarded Fairtrade Town status in December 2005 following an eighteen month campaign supported by many local volunteers. The present nine member steering group, which is chaired by the current Mayor of Thurles, Mrs Evelyn Nevin, are asking all Thurles residents and visitors alike to fully support Fairtrade Fortnight 2010.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 will run from 22nd February – 7th March.

They’ll be asking you to swap your usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff; e.g. your usual tea, coffee, chocolate or bananas for Fairtrade tea, coffee, chocolate or bananas. Each swap will be proof that we as a nation want developing world producers to get a better and fairer deal.

How you can get involved

There’s lots of ways for you to make your mark on Fairtrade Fortnight 2010.

Big, small and medium sized – every single action counts. You could swap your sugar to Fairtrade, mix up a Fairtrade cocktail for friends, arrange a flask mob or get your entire town to swap to Fairtrade.

Each swap that you make helps raise the issues that affect farmers, workers and farming communities. It proves to companies and governments alike that Ireland wants a fairer trading system. Hold Big Swap events in your local schools, church, library, club, workplace…etc to raise awareness of Fairtrade.

Why not host a swap your breakfast, break, lunch or supper. You could also get your workplace, school or college to permanently swap to a Fairtrade cuppa, also don’t forget the option to swap to Fairtrade sugar and snacks.

How about a Pamper Swap! you can swap your body lotions and cocoa butter products for Fairtrade ones. You could also host a cotton swapping event, swap your t-shirts, undies, socks, shopping bags to Fairtrade ones.

Video – Snowing On The River Suir

It’s snowing on the river Suir and at this time of year our bird life take a back seat because they don’t get a handout when they so need it.

Our feathered friends try to scratch an existence under every bush for a meal and with the current prevailing weather conditions there is a shortage of food, due to the freezing snow covered ground, so they do need some help from you.

When it gets cold, birds need energy in the form of seeds and fat to keep them warm. Giving them food and ensuring they eat enough of it will build them up and help them maintain necessary adequate fat supplies. For birds the food and water provided in gardens can be the difference between life and death.

When temperatures fall below freezing, birds struggle to find the food they need to survive the winter in healthy conditions, vital for breeding in spring.

During cold snaps birds are more likely to seek sanctuary in gardens and providing food like meal worms, fatballs, crushed peanuts, dried fruit, seeds and grain can help them survive.

Freezing weather is a potential death sentence for many birds but by feeding the birds in your garden you can help them survive the worst of this winter weather. Just a little water, food and shelter can turn a garden into a vital haven for birds in the freezing winter months.

Remember, feeding birds is an easy way to start teaching children about wildlife. Providing food and water brings them closer for us to marvel at their exciting behaviour and wonderful colours.

Please feed the birds, and they will reward you by reducing your garden insect pests come Springtime.
