8-Dimensional Sound Brought To You Tonight

An amazing new sound called ‘8D audio’ (8-Dimensional sound) is all the rage over the past number of months, and if your main source for streaming music is YouTube you are in luck.

A number of music tracks or sound sequences can be listened to but only with the use of regular headphones.

Using your Headphones, plug in, close your eyes and listen to the Pentatonix version of “Hallelujah” using 8D Audio; shown hereunder.

Ok, we trust you felt that sound sensation soothing your physical and mental being.

Why not now have a ‘field day’ by trying yet another old favourite from back when songwriters actually wrote real lyrics; also hereunder in 8D audio?

Most listeners who tune in with eyes closed listening to 8D audio for the first time, are convinced that the sensation experienced is similar to that of being at a live concert, as the music swirls around in their brain.

Please do Enjoy

Death Of Erin Foods & Expected Regeneration

The Japanese Kobelco excavator; its long arm fitted with a jaw like bucket reminiscent of a Triassic period Dinosaur, has now for the moment ceased its persistent pounding, having chewed up every remaining morsel of the once large, proud, busy industrial unit, known as Erin Foods, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

In just 14 days this former factory and its outbuildings; which in the past had provided a large workforce with an acceptable livelihood; while educating whole families and supporting local businesses, has now been reduced to a pile of dust and rubble.

The factory, which was closed in June 2008 after 46 years of production, by owners Premier Foods Ireland, had remained empty for almost the last 12 years.

But, out of this pile of rubble in this area, a colourful and vibrant Phoenix is now expected to be cyclically regenerated; rising from the ashes of its predecessor in the form of the German global discount supermarket chain known as Lidl Stiftung & Co..

Like it or like it not, the centre of Thurles is about to move its hub, from the historic Liberty Square, 600 metres distant, to Slievenamon Road, certainly in the next two years.

For businesses currently operating in the Liberty Square / Friar Street / Cathedral Street and Parnell Street areas; regardless of the current short-term regulations governing the Covid-19 pandemic, same have already begun to experience a huge reductions in their footfall. Once attractive businesses who have recently announced their intention to cease trading in the months ahead, will further add to this inevitable loss of business and isolation to other traders.

But business people are not really talking publicly about their inevitable demise, neither are they attempting to offer possible solutions.

So during this short time spent ‘Cocooning’, ‘Social Distancing’, ‘Restriction of Movements’ and forced ‘Self-Isolation’; why not let’s chat about the future.

How can we amalgamate, harmonise and fairly include, from a social and business perspective, the areas Liberty Square and Slievenamon Road, to the betterment of the town?.

Eliza Jane Brennan, my grandmother regularly stated, “If there is a problem, there is usually a solution. If there is no solution, it may be a fact of life. Live with it, but first seek that solution.”

Here on Thurles.Info. we welcome such public debate on how we can seek to save our town centre. We look forward to publishing all and any of your ideas. Send all correspondence to our website HERE

Let’s Talk.

Death Of Musician & Singer Bill Withers

Soul, R&B, Blues and Funk musician and singer Mr Bill Harrison Withers Jr., has alas passed away on March 30th last, 2020, from cardiovascular disease, at his home in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He was aged 81 years.

Songs from his chosen genres included; “Just the Two of Us” (Grammy Award 1980); “Grandma’s Hands“; “Ain’t No Sunshine”(Grammy Award 1971); “Lean on Me” (Grammy Award 1972); “Use Me Up”; “Just The Two Of Us” and “Lovely Day”, will be long remembered as undoubtedly some of his greatest contribution to the world of music.

Mr Withers, was born on July 4th, 1938, in Slab Fork, a small coal-mining town in West Virginia, U.S, the youngest of six children. Born with a speech impediment, (a stutter), he had a hard time fitting in with others. Raised in nearby Beckley, he was just 13-years-old when his father died.

At the age of 18 years, Mr Withers enlisted with the United States Navy and served for nine years until 1965, during which time he overcame his speech impediment, before becoming interested in writing songs and performing.

Using $250 he received from selling his furniture to an IBM co-worker Ron Sierra, he relocated to Los Angeles in 1967 to work on an assembly line for several different companies, including the Douglas Aircraft Corporation. He began his musical career by recording demo tapes using his own funding, while selling them in the various clubs he performed in at night. Believing the music business to be a fickle industry, despite debuting with the song “Ain’t No Sunshine”, he refused to resign from his job.

Mr Withers married actress Denise Nicholas in 1973, before divorcing in 1974. In 1976, he married Marcia Johnson, and have two surviving children, Todd and Kori from his second union.

Withers disdain and animosity shown towards Columbia Record’s Artists and Repertoire executives, after being unable to get songs approved for his album, now changed his future career.

Columbia had signed him up after his stint with Sussex Records, latter which folded in 1975. Following further frustration with Columbia, he vowed never to record or re-sign to a record label ever again.

On April 18th, 2015, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Stevi Wonder, before later that year, on October 1st, a tribute concert was held in his honour at Carnegie Hall.

Requiescat in Pace.
