No recorded new Covid-19 cases in Co. Tipperary today.
This evening, figures from the Department of Health confirm that there have been zero new deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll here in the Republic of Ireland remaining at 1,777.
However, there are 42 new additional cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 28,760.
Of todays confirmed cases; 24 are in Dublin and 6 are in Limerick, with the remaining other 12 cases located in Carlow; Clare; Galway; Kildare; Longford; Offaly and Sligo.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mary Favier (President of the Irish College of General Practitioners) has stated that available evidence indicates that schools are a relatively low-risk environment and that kids are more likely to get the virus at home, rather than at educational facilities.
Dr. Favier stated we need to be vigilant for the symptoms, but the average child can go to school, unless they have additional symptoms, such as a new cough or a shortness of breath. Any such symptoms could potentially indicate that testing is needed and the student should stay at home.

However, there are 142 new additional cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 28,720.
Of the 142 new cases confirmed today; 6 are located in Co. Tipperary; 59 are in Dublin; 20 in Kildare; 14 in Donegal; 14 in Limerick; 8 in Wexford, with the remaining 21 cases spread over Carlow; Clare; Cork; Kerry; Kilkenny; Laois; Louth; Mayo; Meath and Wicklow.
Meanwhile, a second case of COVID-19 virus has been confirmed in our prisons. The case involves a man in his late 20’s who tested positive for the virus after recently returning from abroad. The man was tested for COVID-19 in Coolock Garda Station after being arrested for a number of minor offences, including criminal damage, theft and road traffic offences. The prisoner has been kept in quarantine since testing.

Of the 127 new confirmed cases today, 9 were in Co. Tipperary; while 52 were in Dublin; 13 in Monaghan; 8 each in Meath, Wexford, and Roscommon; with the remaining 29 located in Carlow; Cavan; Clare; Cork; Galway; Kerry; Kildare; Kilkenny; Limerick; Longford; Louth; Offaly; Waterford; Westmeath and Wicklow.
There now have been 2656 confirmed clusters within the Republic.
Meanwhile in Northern Ireland, another 85 people have tested positive for Covid-19. This brings their seven-day total to 431. Happily no new deaths were reported.

As at midnight last night, the number of patients in University Hospital Limerick, with suspected Covid-19, [latter the medical facility serving North Tipperary], was confirmed at 4. One such case was also confirmed at South Tipp General, Clonmel, serving the south of the county.
Overnight figures showed a small rise in the number of confirmed cases of the disease in 14 Irish hospitals; rising to 28, an increase of two on earlier yesterday. Four of these 28 patients confirmed in hospitals are in intensive care units.

Thirty four of the 93 cases are located in Dublin; 7 in Kildare, 6 each in counties Donegal and Laois and 5 each in Limerick and Wexford. The remaining 30 cases confirmed are located in Tipperary; Carlow; Cavan; Clare; Cork; Louth; Meath; Monaghan; Offaly; Westmeath and Wicklow.
Some 70% of the cases reported today involve people under the age of 45 years.
There were 69 new cases reported by the Department of Health in Northern Ireland earlier today, bringing the total number of cases there to 6,964, with one Covid-related death reported, bringing their death total to 560.
Meanwhile; due to the continuous high numbers of COVID-19 cases reported over the last 7 days, it is understood that the National Public Health Emergency Team for Covid-19 (NPHET) do not want to risk reopening pubs. A new date, after August 31st, for the prospective reopening of pubs has not yet been set and it still remains unclear as to whether there will be any date set, prior to Christmas 2020.
Finally, the latest figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control confirm that Ireland’s 14-day incidence of Covid-19 cases, per 100,000 people, now stands at 31.1; while the UK 14-day incidence per 100,000 people stands at 22.6; with Italy at 17.9 and Germany at 20.7.

Meanwhile, recent figures show that the last two weeks cumulative number of cases of Covid-19 here in the Irish Republic, for every 100,000 people is 28.5 confirmed by the European Centre for Disease Control. These confirmed figures remain higher than the UK at 22.5 cases; Germany at 20.7 cases, and Italy at 16.5 cases, but are lower than Spain at 183.1 cases, France at 65.6 and Belgium at 49.7 and Sweden at 36.8 cases.
Not surprisingly, 93 of the confirmed cases reported are in Dublin. Elsewhere the numbers include 22 cases in Kildare; 10 in Tipperary; 9 in Cork; 8 in Carlow; 6 in Waterford and Offaly and the remaining 10 cases spread over Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Louth and Roscommon.
In Northern Ireland, there have been reported a further 72 cases of the Covid-19 virus, with a total of 384 people having tested positive over the last week, (7 days).
In other Covis-19 news, wedding guests will have to wear face coverings when arriving at or leaving their table, according to new guidelines for reopening hotels and guesthouses by Fáilte Ireland. Under the current public health guidelines, all guests will also have to leave function rooms and bar areas by 11.30pm.
