Man Appears In Court On Assaults Charges

A 22 year old male, who was released from custody last night, in connection with a fatal assault in Thurles over last weekend, appeared in court this morning.

The alleged assaults charges relate to events of Wednesday and Friday of last week, here in Thurles.

Jason Morrissey, with a current address at Church St. Toomevara, Co Tipperary, was charged with three counts of assault causing bodily harm. Mr Morrissey was remanded in custody until next week and is being held at Limerick prison.

The 22 year old had been released from custody last night, after being questioned over Sunday night’s assault of 25 year old Mr James Tynan, who died at South Tipperary General hospital last night.

Mr Tynan’s death is understood to be a direct result of injuries he received, when he was assaulted on Liberty Square early last Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, Gardai state they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Sunday morning’s attack and have thanked the public for all their assistance.
