UHL Had Highest Number Of Patients Without A Bed During June 2024.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), over 9,437 patients, including 70 children were admitted to our Irish hospitals, without a bed, during this past month (June 2024).

This figure represents a 14% increase when compared to June 2023.

The hospital with the highest number of patients was University Hospital Limerick, latter serving North Tipperary with 1666 patients without a bed, in June.

University Hospital Galway had 1051 patients on trolleys this month, with 824 patients in Cork University Hospital also without a bed during the same period.

The figures remain as clear evidence as if same was required, that our health service remains far too reliant on a hospital system that does not have the sufficient bed capacity for an ever increasing Irish population.

Tipp Minors Are All Ireland Champions After Epic Tussle With Cats.

Tipperary are the Electric Ireland Minor Hurling Champions after a pulsating contest with neighbours Kilkenny. A Billy O’Brien goal four minutes from the end of Extra Time sealed an improbable win after Tipperary had been reduced to 13 men, just before the 20 minute mark.

The Tipperary management team composed themselves at half time, helped by a fortuitous Eoghan Doughan goal straight from a 65 just before the break, and hatched one of the all-time defiant Tipperary hurling performances. The performance of these brave 13 youngsters blended the tough defending, associated with previous Tipperary teams of the 1950s and 1960s, and the attacking style and panache of more recent Tipperary teams.

It would be unfair to single out any one player after this brilliant team performance, so Thurles.info would like to give huge praise to all our local players, and the time, energy, and coaching invested in them by their families, local GAA clubs and schools – players representing Durlas Og, Holycross Ballycahill GAA, Moycarkey Borris GAA, Thurles CBS and Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed (and previously Scoil Ailbhe, Gaelscoil Bhríde, St Michaels NS Holycross primary schools).

Despite the unseasonal cold, a massive crowd await the arrival home of the victorious Tipp Minors unto the steps of Thurles Cathedral, just before midnight last night.

The honour of Captaining the team, and the recipient of the Irish Press Cup from Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns, was Cathal O’Reilly (Holycross-Ballycahill GAA) who provided towering leadership from the heart of the defence to this special group of players.

On a day when our Senior Camogie team also had a victory over Kilkenny in the All Ireland, the performance of these young players has lifted the morale of the Tipperary hurling public and points to some green shoots ahead.

June 2024: New Gardaí Graduate From Templemore, Co. Tipperary.

  • 157 Gardaí graduated yesterday at a ceremony held at the Garda College, Templemore, Co. Tipperary, bringing to approximately 323 the number of newly graduated members so far this year.
  • 35% of the new recruits were women while 11% were born outside of Ireland.

At a graduation ceremony held at the Garda College in Templemore, Co. Tipperary yesterday, 157 newly-Garda members were welcomed by those in attendance.
These new Garda members have now completed their training and will be assigned to Garda Divisions throughout the country.

Yesterday’s graduations now bring the total number of members of An Garda Síochána to over 14,000, up from 12,943 members in 2016. Of those graduating today, 53 members (35%) were women, while 17 members (11%) were born outside the Irish State.

It will come as no surprise that 103 of these probationer Gardaí have now been assigned to the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR); 38 to the Eastern Region; 11 to the Southern Region, and 6 to the North Western Region. Four of those graduating yesterday are former Garda Reserve members.

These additions in increased Garda membership should ensure that our communities continue to remain safe while granting An Garda Síochána the resources required to operate effectively. The budget, provided by taxpayers to the Garda Commissioner continues to increase to unprecedented levels, with an allocation of over €2.35 billion for 2024.

Yesterday was the second graduation to take place from the Garda College at Templemore in 2024, with a further graduation planned for September of this year.

An intake of 185 trainees entered the Garda College in April. This was the first of four intakes planned for April, July, September and December of this year.
