We posted earlier this month (December 5th 2024 last), confirmation of the idiotic plans accepted under Phase 2 of Thurles towns upgraded traffic plans; same formulated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and proposed and seconded by Fine Gael’s Cllr. Ms Peggy Ryan and Fianna Fail’s Cllr. Mr Sean Ryan.
These plans are now expected to proceed some years down the line, despite angry local opposition by traders, who have already suffered the loss, they claim, of some 40% – 60% of footfall and who now fear a dramatic decline in the value of their business properties.
Following a meeting held on Monday last, Fine Gael Cllr. Ms Peggy Ryan has proposed a motion, seeking that parking bye-laws in Thurles, should be reviewed to bring in more short term parking in the centre of town. This proposed motion follows her earlier proposed acceptance of the idiotic Phase 2 plan, which will see 12-14 car park spaces eradicated from west of the town centre.

Question: When will “The Source” car park be re-opened to the public?
This new proposal, by Cllr. Ms Peggy Ryan, appears to ignore the fact that for well over a year, parking under “The Source” building has remained closed, while the existing car parks are filled five days each week by workers, using all-day parking tickets; thus leaving no spaces for those attempting to shop in the town centre.
We the electorate are no longer being kept informed of what is being discussed behind closed doors at Council meetings.

Question: Following the purchase, by the Local Authority (2013) , (which used taxpayer funding), of property at the corner of Cuchulainn Road/O’Donovan Rossa Street, formerly known as Campbell’s Tyre Centre, can parking spaces not now be made available here?
Presently, this area remains disused, weed infested and like other areas of our town, is no longer maintained in an appropriate manner.

Narcissus ‘Tete-a-Tete’ Dwarf Daffodil normally bloom early in the season, starting from February through until April, and are among the first to herald the arrival of spring. Their vibrant blooms are a welcome sight after those grey winter months, bringing warmth and joy to our garden borders, rock gardens, containers, and window boxes.
However, here in Thurles, Co. Tipperary these Narcissus ‘Tete-a-Tete’ Dwarf Daffodil have decided to not wait for February and have raised their pretty heads above ground in early December; at least two whole months ahead of schedule.
Pre-deceased by his siblings Catherine (Chrissy Mangan), Annie (Connolly), Martin, Peter, Paddy and Micheal, his sisters-in-law Winny and Judy, brothers-in-law Tommy Fox and Tommy Connolly; Mr McLoughlin passed away while in the care of staff at Abbeylands Nursing Home, Kildorrery, Co. Cork, surrounded by his loving family.
His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; wife Noreen (Fitzgerald), daughters Sharon, Lorraine, Paul and Yvonne, sister Mary (Fox), grandchildren Dylan, Roisin, Conor, Micheal, Collett, Ruby, Paul jnr., Paul’s wife Libra and great-granddaughter Kacy, son-in-law Stevie Kent, daughter-in-law Judy, Sharon’s partner Eamon Murphy and Yvonne’s partner Howard, sister-in-law Lil (Mcloughlin), and brother-in-law Jim (Mangan), nieces, nephews, extended relatives, kind neighbours and a large circle of friends. Fondly remembered also by the Griffin’s (Lixnaw), Fitzgeralds (Abbeyfeale), Breslains and Burkes (Patrickswell) and the Sheehan Family (Bermingham).

Funeral Arrangements.
The earthly remains of Mr McLouglin will repose at Abbeylands Nursing Home, & Alzheimers Unit, Carhoo, Kildorrery on tomorrow evening, Wednesday, December 18th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. His remains will be received into the Church of St Bartholomew, Kildorrery on Thursday, December 19th, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 1:00pm, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in the local cemetery.
