“Turn! Turn! Turn!” reminds us that life is filled with changing seasons; moments of joy and sorrow, love and loss, conflict and reconciliation, and, above all, the enduring hope for peace.
The song was composed and adapted by the late Pete Seeger, the legendary American folk singer, songwriter, musician, and social activist. Drawing inspiration from the biblical Book of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3 (A wisdom book), Seeger transformed ancient words of wisdom into a moving reflection on the human experience.
In 1965, the celebrated American folk-rock band The Byrds brought the song to international prominence with their beautiful vocal harmonies and distinctive guitar sound, creating one of the most memorable recordings of the 1960s.
More than six decades later, its message remains as relevant as ever; life is constantly changing, every season has its purpose, and even in troubled times, the hope for a more peaceful world must never fade.
“Turn! Turn! Turn!”
“Turn! Turn! Turn!”
Everything (turn, turn, turn),
There is a season (turn, turn, turn),
And a time to every purpose, under heaven.
A time to be born, a time to die.
A time to plant, a time to reap.
A time to kill, a time to heal.
A time to laugh, a time to weep.
To everything (turn, turn, turn),
There is a season (turn, turn, turn),
And a time to every purpose, under heaven.
A time to build up, a time to break down.
A time to dance, a time to mourn.
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together.
To everything (turn, turn, turn),
There is a season (turn, turn, turn),
And a time to every purpose, under heaven,
A time of love, a time of hate.
A time of war, a time of peace.
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing.
To everything (turn, turn, turn),
There is a season (turn, turn, turn),
And a time to every purpose, under heaven.
A time to gain, a time to lose.
A time to rend, a time to sew.
A time for love, a time for hate.
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late.
END.
