Faulty Towers Comes To The Source Theatre Thurles

“Rude waiters, a rat in the kitchen and what is that unidentified object floating in your soup?”  This usually mean the “Meal from Hell,” but it also adds up to a most unforgettable, truly funny, night’s entertainment.

Next Friday April 20th and Saturday April 21st The Source Arts Centre, here in Thurles, will host “Faulty Towers – the Dining Experience,” starting at 7.30pm and courtesy of Interactive Theatre Australia, in association with Ten42 Productions.

The series, as most people are aware, was originally set in “Fawlty Towers,” a fictional hotel in the seaside town of Torquay, on the “English Riviera”. The plots originally centred around a rude and deranged manager Basil Fawlty (Played by John Cleese), his bossy wife Sybil (Played by Prunella Scales), a comparatively normal chambermaid Polly, (Played by Connie Booth) and a hapless Spanish waiter Manuel (Played by Andrew Sachs) latter with a limited English vocabularly and their attempts to run the hotel amidst farcical situations and an array of demanding and eccentric guests.

Acclaimed both nationally and internationally, this show is now an annual feature at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and now Fawlty Towers comes here to Thurles for just two nights.

You can now enjoy a three course meal at “The Source Café,” served up by none other than “Manuel,” “Basil,” and “Sybil,” which will guarantee that everything that can possibly go wrong on the night, most certainly will.

Tickets are priced at €45, which includes a three-course meal, with a choice of Main Course and Desert.

Highly recommended, with guaranteed side splitting laughter! (Just one piece of advice “Don’t mention the war.”)

National Stroke Week So Lets Be Serious

Ireland’s National Stroke Week, will take place this year from the 16th-20th of April, 2012.

Strokes are the third biggest killer in Ireland, with over 10,000 people suffering from Stroke attack here in Ireland each year.

According to the Irish Heart Foundation, the ‘Time Window,‘ for receiving clot-busting treatment, is just 4.5 hours after the onset of a Stroke. But given that the average attack destroys two million brain cells every minute, the quicker a stroke sufferer gets in to hospital, the more of their brain, quite literally, can be saved.

The Irish Heart Foundation are anxious to educate the public as a whole, on how to identify the signs of a Stroke so they can Act F.A.S.T. thus helping to save more lives.

Increased access to clot-busting thrombolysis treatment and Stroke unit care has the potential to reduce our annual death toll (which claims over 2000 lives annually,) by up to 25%. But improved services promised by the HSE, can only have an impact if people know the warning signs of Stroke and get into hospital quickly enough to benefit. The doctors won’t be able to help you, unless you’ve helped yourself first, by spotting the symptoms of a Stroke and calling an ambulance.

The Irish Heart Foundation state that the time window for receiving clot-busting treatment is just 4.5 hours after the onset of Stroke, and while mainly, thanks to our elected representatives who consistently choose to “Toe the Party Line,” at the expense of our electorate, our nearest hospital is now 1.5 hours away, so do the sums. (Remember the Phil Hogan quote “I’m in dispute with these people, the management company, in relation to services which are not provided. Would you pay a charge if you were unhappy with the service? ” )

This year, National Stroke Week will focus on spreading the F.A.S.T. message out to every corner of Ireland, but they need your help. They need you to run a F.A.S.T. campaign in your work place, your school or your village/town, to teach the public how to recognise the signs and highlight the need to act quickly.

Many groups have run F.A.S.T. campaigns since this campaign first started in 2010, so this year they need even more people to sign up and spread the message.  Remember, National Stroke Week could end up saving someone’s life and it could be your own.

You can order your FREE F.A.S.T. Pack, including their Guide to Running a Local F.A.S.T. Campaign, by simply emailing Sarah Horgan, shorgan@irishheart.ie or by calling Tel No: 01-6346925.

Fine Gael Ard Fheis – Where Is The Fairness?

US President Barack Obama today called on the American Congress to pass the “Buffett Rule,” a principle that ensures that millionaires and billionaires do not pay less in taxes as a share of their income, than middle class families pay, as a matter of fairness.

At the Fine Gael Ard Fheis today, Irish Finance Minister Michael Noonan said “a country is not just an economy, it is about people.” He described the building blocks of the economy as “stability, confidence and fairness.” He said everything should be about “better.” The minister told delegates that the burden in relation to our economy will have to fall evenly on people, and those who are strongest will have to contribute most and those who are weakest will have to be protected.

Two Questions For Minister Michael Noonan

  1. Was the Household Charge, introduced by Minister Phil Hogan, based on income and ability to pay?
  2. Where were the building blocks of fairness, when a majority of law abiding Tipperary householders, today, were forced to break the law?

Do the right thing. In your own words “treat all of the children of the nation equally.” Cancel this ridiculous, unplanned and unfair attack on low income earners. Enda Kenny has previously twice made reference to publishing ‘Report Cards,‘ on the work of each of his Ministers and it must now be obvious to him that Phil Hogan does not have the basic ability to carry on the work, taxpayers require of his office.

We also don’t envy success here in Tipperary. We also aspire to it. But we also believe that anyone who does well for themselves should pay their fair share in return, so that more people are given the opportunity to get ahead, not just a few.
