 Model of proposed ‘Tipperary Venue’. Tipperary Co Council has agreed to extend the duration time applicable to the planning permission previously granted for the €460m ‘Tipperary Venue’, latter a designed sport and leisure complex, initially planned for the village of Two-Mile-Borris, near Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Planning permission for this, as yet, undeveloped complex is held by Mr Richard Quirke, who made the application to extend the duration of the planning, citing Ireland’s serious economic past downturn as his reason why the proposed development had as yet not got off the ground.
A casino, which had been part of the original plan for the Two-Mile-Borris location, has been omitted. Readers will remember that An Taisce representatives had informed an oral planning appeals hearing, that the proposed Tipperary Venue was, quote; “ill-conceived and warrants comprehensive refusal.”
The Tipperary Venue plans had initially included a casino, a racecourse, a 500-roomed hotel, an 18-hole golf course, a greyhound track, a 15,000-seater entertainment venue, and parking for 6,000 cars. Other features included a sprint track, an all-weather floodlit track, an equestrian centre, some 31 retail outlets, helicopter facilities and a church.
A replica of the 1829 American White House as it stood then, was also to be built as a memorial to the Cuffesgrange, Kilkenny born Architect Mr James Hoban, (1758 to 1831) who designed the original Washington White House, now the official residence of the President of the United States and used as a home by every American President since John Adams; as indeed was a reproduction of Lafayette Park, latter an incubator of progressive architecture and regarded as one of the few historically stable urban renewal zones in the United States.
Tipperary Council planners has now agreed to extend the initial planning permission period to March of the year 2023.

 Semple Stadium Warning to those found parking illegally within the vicinity of Tom Semple Stadium.
The Semple Stadium management committee, through their secretary and spokesperson Mr Tom Maher, have issued a warning to the visiting public who expect to be attending the upcoming national hurling league game (Tipperary v Wexford) on tomorrow Saturday, (as indeed for all other events to be held within Semple Stadium into the future) that local parking laws and restrictions, as presently set down here in Thurles, will be fully implemented in and around the Stadium.
Cars found parked illegally, e.g. which could include parking on double yellow lines; parking on footpaths; parking in such a way as to block private entrances, etc, will be noted, with the result that parking fines will be issued in the weeks following these future events.
Semple Stadium management invite lovers of sport to come and enjoy the games, but please park carefully and within the law, respecting the rights of others.

Two Tipperary greyhound owners, Mr Dan Clancy, with an address at Kilmore, Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary, and Mr Derek O’Sullivan, with an address at Castleview, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary, have both been fined after traces of a cocaine metabolite were found in the systems of two of their dogs.
Mr Dan Clancy, informed the control committee of the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB), that he did not dispute the laboratory analysis, but regretted that he had not exercised the necessary appropriate care in the feeding regime of his dog ‘Goes Wilder’, latter whose urine sample was found to contain the prohibited substance Benzoylecgonine.
Mr Clancy was fined €2,500 and further ordered to forfeit prize money won at a race in Limerick Greyhound Stadium on May 5th last.
Mr Derek O’Sullivan, was fined €2,000, after a urine sample was taken at Cork Greyhound Stadium on June 13th from his dog ‘Billys Question’. Same also tested positive for Benzoylecgonine.
Mr O’Sullivan was of the opinion that his dog may have come into contact with the banned substance, while being exercised in a field close his home.
The IGB control committee, however, rejected both owners explanations and further directed that samples should be taken from any greyhound under their care, and which was presented for racing at Bord na gCon licensed stadiums, for a period of six months.
 Mr Edward and Mrs Maria O’Grady during happier times. It is with sadness we report that Tipperary native, Mrs Maria O’Grady, wife of top Irish National Hunt trainer Mr Edward O’Grady, (Killeen Stables, Ballynonty , Thurles), was tragically killed in a riding accident yesterday, Saturday 25th November.
Mrs O’Grady (née Anderton) originally from Ballymackey, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, sadly leaves behind two daughters Mimi and Rosie Mai and three of Mr O’Grady’s older children Jonathan, Amber and Lucy.
Mr Jonathan O’Grady issued a brief statement yesterday evening, affirming: “On behalf of Edward and family, it is with shock and profound sorrow that I confirm Maria O’Grady died suddenly today, following a tragic fall on the hunting field. Beloved wife, revered mother and ardent friend, she will be inordinately missed. RIP.”
