Irish Simplified Tax Return For 2012
One of our more regular discerning daily readers, sent me a short poem today, which I now share with you.
I regret I do not know the author’s name, so I can’t give due credit, but thank you.
The Politicians National Anthem
Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table at which he’s fed.
Tax his work, Tax his pay, (he works for peanuts anyway!)
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, then find other ways to tax his ass.
Tax all he has, and let him know, that you won’t be done till he has no dough.
If he screams and hollers, then tax him more, Tax him till he’s good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in which he’s laid.
When he’s gone, do not relax, it’s time to apply Inheritance Tax.
Airline Luggage Tax, Airline Fuel Tax, Airport Maintenance Tax, Building Permit Tax, Parking Tax, Cigarette Tax, Chewing Gum Tax, Dog Tax, Television Tax, Electrical Goods Disposal Tax, Corporation Tax, Goods and Services Tax , Death Tax, Driving Permit Tax, Environmental Tax, Excise Tax, Income Tax, Fishing Tax, Gun Tax, Food Tax, Car Test Tax (NCT), Petrol Tax, Health Tax, Inheritance Tax, Interest Tax, Heating oil Tax, Lighting Tax, Liquor Tax, Luxury Tax, Marriage License Tax, Medical Care Tax, Mortgage Tax, Pension Tax, Property Tax, Poverty Tax, Prescription Drug Tax, Real Estate Tax, Car Tax, Vehicle License Registration Tax, Retail Sales Tax, Service Charge Tax, School Tax, Telephone Tax, Vehicle Sales Tax, Water Tax, Workers Compensation Tax, Carbon Tax, Universal Social Tax, Household Tax and finally VAT which is “Tax on Tax.”
Very few of these taxes existed 100 years ago. We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class society, a huge manufacturing base, jobs and mothers stayed home to raise a family of which everyone was proud.
So what in the Hell happened? Could it have been caused by overpaid, lying, parasitic politicians, wasting our hard earned money?
Why not give us your views, comment please?
Hi Honey,
As you are aware I have worked every day for the past 44 years, contributing my fair share to the wasted finances of this State. During those 44 years, I have never once obtained a solitary Social Welfare payment. My employers have always, over the years, “Stamped Me Card,” Deducted Me Taxes, Me PRSI and Me USC Contributions, none of which have as yet offered any benefit to either me or my family. Not so much as a false tooth, a pair of glasses, a confirmation dress or a €60 to neuter me dog, have I ever received.
I learn from media reports that you now intend to crackdown on dole claimants, those little beggars who do not turn up for FAS interviews. This new get-tough move, I understand, is part of a deal with our new masters from outer space “The Troika,” latter who recently landed and now currently govern this country, and all aimed at getting unemployed people back to work, in a State where work is no longer available.
Do remember however, one occupational group should be exempt from FAS training. Those of whom I speak would be our fine body of garbage collectors. Those employed in this worthy highly paid occupation “just pick it up as they go along,” so training is not necessary.
I understand new figures released by the Department of Social Protection have revealed a dramatic increase in the number of people reporting suspected Social Welfare fraud. This number of ‘Squealers,’ have jumped from 6,500 in 2009 to nearly 17,000 in 2011. Well when you are an out of work civil servant, a sacked banker or a failed developer, the site of anyone getting €140 every week for nothing, would make you roll up the window of your BMW, take your Blackberry out and begin secretly texting the authorities.
Your department has made savings of €645m through fraud prevention and control measures in 2011, well in excess of its €540m target. Over 30,000 fraud investigations were completed and 750 employer inspections undertaken. Your findings however, will see only 270 cases considered for prosecution under the Social Welfare Act, while only 174 cases have been referred to gardaí for criminal prosecution.
Here in Tipperary, we have quite a few individuals unemployed, who take money from the State and who to-date have escaped your sweeping investigations. I feel it is my civic duty to report the names of these individuals, so that they can be included in your new legislation which will enable Social Welfare officials to investigate their suspected fraud and present findings directly to the Director for Public Prosecutions.
However, before I “name and shame,” causing you to rush out to interview those I blow the whistle on, allow me to congratulate you personally on the excellent work undertaken by your hitherto unprofessional lazy department, who allowed all this fraud to take place in the first instant.
Now Joan, am I correct in understanding that ‘Unemployed,‘ means, ‘Not working, and not actively looking for work.’ Am I also correct in understanding that the politically incorrect phrase ‘Unskilled Workforce,’ means ‘A segment of our work force associated with a low level of skill or of limited economic value for the work that they currently perform.’
Trusting that you and I now agree on the above definitions, I wish to report 3 individuals worthy of immediate investigation by your department, who currently, secretly carry on the trade of “Politician, ” and whose names are as follows:-

The public meeting by campaigners against Septic Tank, Water, and Household Tax charges, held in Hayes Hotel, Liberty Square, Thurles, on Friday last, February 10th, adequately demonstrated the outrage felt by rural dwellers with regard to this controversial and discriminatory tax, with well over 200 in attendance.
Local elected politicians supporting the tax were more than conspicuous by their very absence, as speakers from the floor, which included members of Thurles Chamber, elderly residents and parents of young families with mortgages, vocally condemning the proposed charges, as discriminatory, anti rural Ireland and totally unacceptable.
Their worst fears expressed on Friday night were further supported today with figures, released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), which revealed that more than half of households have reduced spending on groceries and two-thirds are purchasing less clothing and footwear.
According to these new figures, one in ten households has borrowed money from friends or family to pay for basic services during the recession, and one fifth of Irish residents have delayed or missed paying a bill over the last two years. Nearly half have spent all or some of their savings. This Quarterly National Household Survey also found that spending on health insurance and pension contributions has also been cut by more than 10%.
In this survey, one member of each household was asked if they had to cut back on spending on several categories of goods or services as a result of the economic climate in Ireland. E.g. mortgage payments, utility bills, groceries, clothing and footwear, holidays, nights out, and extra tutorials for children’s education.
The survey concluded that 79% of households had cut back their spending on at least one of the above, including one in ten delaying or missing a loan repayment: 10% missing paying their credit card bill; one in five reducing club membership spending; 10% cutting back on tutorials for children; and holidays abroad cut back by just under half of all households questioned.
This survey was conducted last year, wonder what it reads like this year?
Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources and former Mayor of Drogheda Mr Fergus O’Dowd will be visiting Silvermines here in Tipperary next Monday.
Mr O’Dowd is in Tipperary to discuss the ongoing, long drawn out, rehabilitation of the Silvermines area. He is expected to be accompanied by a geologist and other Department Officials.
The Minister of State will begin by touring Silvermines Tailings Pond, Gortmore and Garryard, and will have talks later with Mr Karl Cashen, Director of Services NTCC, North Tipperary County Manager Joe McGrath and Michael Leamy, local farmer and Chairperson of Silvermines Environmental Group.
 Deputy M. Lowry
Mr Michael Lowry, Independent TD for North Tipperary, has lost his High Court case in securing a summary ruling in his defamation case over comments made by journalist Mr Sam Smyth which, Mr Lowry claimed, wrongly meant he was a thief.
The President of the High Court, Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns today rejected Mr Lowry’s claim that he was entitled to a summary order under the new Defamation Act 2009, on grounds that Mr Smyth had no arguable defence to the alleged defamation. Justice Kearns stated “On the contrary, it seems clear the defendant (Journalist Mr Sam Smyth) has a good arguable case in respect of both publications.”
Justice Kearns also awarded costs against Mr Lowry in both the High Court and Circuit Courts.
Justice Kearns also stated that in relation to the alleged defamation on “The Vincent Browne Show,” he was satisfied Mr Smyth was entitled to argue the words “hand in till” may be taken as referring to tax fraud and bills inappropriately picked up for the benefit of Mr Lowry by business interests.
