As part of the continuous war on illegal drugs and those selling misery for personal gain; two men were arrested by Gardaí in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, yesterday afternoon, (14th July 2020) .
They were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a drugs distribution network, located here in the south Tipperary region.
Items seized included illegal drugs and offensive weapons.
Yesterday at approximately 2.30pm, Gardaí from Clonmel Garda Station assisted by the Regional Dog Unit, Henry Street, carried out a search at an address in Clonmel.
During the course of this operation, Gardaí recovered cocaine and cannabis with an estimated street value of €18,500 along with €980 in cash, a weighing scales, mobile phones and a number of offensive weapons, including a stun gun.
The two men arrested were aged in their 30’s and remain currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Clonmel Garda Station.
Those arrested can be held for up to seven days as investigations continue.
Gardaí yesterday arrested a teenage boy in connection with a fatal road collision which occurred in Co. Tipperary on Saturday afternoon last.
The teenager is the second person to have been arrested regarding this tragic incident.
Readers will remember that one man, aged in his sixties died. He was named locally as Mr Noel McGrath, a former prison officer in Limerick and Portlaoise, from Oola, Co Limerick, close to the border with Co. Tipperary. A woman also in her sixties received non life threatening injuries in this two-vehicle collision, which happened near Nenagh at around 12.50pm on Saturday afternoon.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in this collision failed to remain at the scene. A man in his thirties, who was later arrested on Sunday morning, has since been released, with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The arrested teenager was detained at Templemore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Further investigations are understood to be ongoing.
A man, named locally as Noel McGrath, has sadly died and a woman has been injured following a road traffic collision, which happened around 12.50pm yesterday. The collision involved two vehicles on the N7 at Ballyhiskey, Carrigatoher, Nenagh, Co Tipperary.
The driver of one car, a man in his 60’s, was removed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where he was later pronounced lifeless.
A front seat passenger in the same vehicle, a woman understood to be also in her 60’s, was removed to University Hospital Limerick, with injuries being reported as non-life threatening.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in this collision failed to remain at the scene.
Gardaí at Nenagh are appealing for any witnesses to this fatal collision, to come forward, especially those who were travelling on the N7 roadway between Nenagh and Birdhill between 12:30pm and 1:15pm, and who may possess camera footage.

Two drivers, found under the influence of drugs, were arrested by Thurles Roads Policing Unit (RPU) last night.
The first car was observed by Gardaì driving erratically. The driver was asked to do a roadside drug test which showed positive for cannabis. The driver was arrested and provided a blood sample to Gardai which will be forwarded for analysis.
Later in the early hours of the morning, a Templemore unit was patroling the district when it encountered a car with a number of people on board. The car again was driving erratically at high speed before eventually coming to a stop after colliding with a road side bollard.
Tax and NCT had expired while no insurance disc was displayed on the vehicle. This driver also performed a roadside drug test, which again proved positive for cannabis. A check on the mobility app showed the driver is currently disqualified from driving for 8 years. Driver was arrested and provided a blood sample at the station. A court appearance will follow in relation to numerous road traffic offences.
This morning, July 5th 2020, one man has lost his life, one man is in a critical condition and another man has been arrested following a three-car road crash here in Co. Tipperary.
The collision happened just before 7:00am at South Lodge, Carrick-On-Suir, Co. Tipperary.
The fatality, latter a front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles and understood to be aged in his 70’s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, aged in his 20’s, travelling in the back of another car was removed to St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny, in a critical condition.
The man arrested is understood to be aged in his 30’s and is being held at Clonmel Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward especially those who may have vehicle cam footage and to make same footage available.
