Covid-19 Update: Tue. 18th Aug. 2020 – 190 New Cases

Let us adapt our behaviour, remembering that Covid-19 virus capitalises on your complacency.

Ireland’s Covid-19 rate of growth over the past two weeks remains the fourth highest in Europe.

New recommendations from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) in the battle against Covid-19 virus, are to be limit to 15 persons, under strict new limits on public gatherings which were agreed this afternoon; down from 200 as was previously introduced in our roadmap.

These new measures, agreed by Cabinet, will now mean that sporting fixtures can only take place behind closed doors.
Weddings will continue to be exempt under the new restrictions, meaning they can go ahead with a maximum of 50 people.

Indoor events will now be limited strictly to 6 persons, reduced from 50, except for religious services like Mass, and businesses such as shops and restaurants, which are subject to separate rules.

Employees, where possible, will be advised to work from home, to avoid using public transport; unless same is proved as absolutely necessary.

All new Covid-19 restrictions will remain in place until September 13th at the earliest.

An ‘Outbreak Control Team’ has now been established at University Hospital Limerick; latter medical facility serving North Tipperary, following the confirmation that one patient and one member of staff have both tested positive for Covid-19 virus. All other patient on the hospitals ward identified have been informed.

However, there are 190 new additional cases reported to the Department of Health today.

The World Health Organization has stated that it was concerned that the coronavirus spread was being driven by people in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, many of whom are unaware that they were infected, thus posing a danger to vulnerable and elderly groups.

Please redouble your efforts in relation to hand washing, physical distancing and reduce contacts, until this virus has been destroyed.
