Omicron Cases Reach 11,971 On Irish Mainland Today.

The Department of Health here in the Irish Republic have confirmed 3,692 new cases of Covid-19, with an additional 4,347 people registering a positive antigen test through the HSE portal. Same numbers further confirm, a total of 8,039 new virus cases, latter a decrease of 177 based on the numbers reported in the same 24 hour period yesterday.

There are 885 people with Covid-19 in our Republic’s hospitals, up 40 on yesterday, and of these 76 are in ICU, down 3 on yesterday.

With some 8,000 health service staff remaining out of work, due to the virus; there remain high numbers of people still presenting themselves at emergency departments around the country, according to the Health Service Executive’s Chief Operations Officer, Ms Anne O’Connor.

From today onwards, following the announcement of the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, on Friday last, employers can now start bringing staff back into their previous workplace.

Irish prison visits are expected to resume this week, with one ‘in-person’ visit every two weeks, and a video visit on the alternate week.

The Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP), which has closed for new applications from January 22nd, will move back to a weekly rate of €208, with effect from payments made on March 8th next.

In Northern Ireland, a further 3,932 cases of coronavirus been confirmed today, up 873 further cases on figures reported yesterday.
Today also, there were 371 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, with 23 of these in intensive care units.
Sadly, 1 Covid-19-related death has also been reported today in Northern Ireland.

Australia has recorded yet another surge of deaths, due to Covid-19, as an outbreak of the highly contagious Omicron variant peaks.
Australian authorities have warned that numbers could continue to rise further, as schools return next week from their end-of-year holidays.
The States of New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, have confirmed 58 deaths, despite more than 9 in 10 Australians, aged over 12, having had two doses of one or other a coronavirus vaccine.

Herr Hans Kluge, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) European director has stated that he believes the Omicron variant has moved the Covid-19 pandemic into a new phase and could bring it to an end within Europe.

Meanwhile, in Brussels yesterday, police were forced to use water cannon and tear gas in an effort to breakup an estimated 50,000 people parading through the Belgian capital. All were protesting against Covid-19 rules, while some became involved in hurling paving stones and firecrackers.

Omicron Cases Today Reach 8,126 In Irish Republic, Down 2,474 Cases On Yesterday.

The Republic of Ireland’s Department of Health, within the past 24 hours, has confirmed 4,731 new cases of Covid-19, while 3,395 people have also registered positive antigen test, through the HSE portal. Same numbers confirm, in all, a total of 8,126 new virus cases, latter a decrease of 2,474 based on the numbers reported in the same 24 hour period just yesterday.

There are 845 patients with Covid-19 in our Republic’s hospitals, spread around the country, as at 8:00am this morning; same an increase of 9 based on yesterday’s figures. Of these 79 patients are receiving treatment in intensive care units; up 1 more, in the last 24 hours.

Covid-19 vaccines are said to be going to waste, with claims that people are not turning up for their booster appointments, especially young people. However, this claim of complacency may be incorrect, due to the open-ended methods of communications used by doctors, who contacted patients who had already been summoned and vaccinated directly by the HSE, or who had used open walk-in centres, fearing delays in being called by their local doctor.

Omicron Cases Today Reach 14,076 On Irish Mainland – Down 653 On Yesterday.

The Republic’s Department of Health have confirmed 6,689 new cases of Covid-19, with 3,911 people registering a positive antigen test using the HSE portal; confirming in all a total of 10,600 new virus cases, latter a decrease of 561 based on numbers reported in the same 24 hour period yesterday.

As of 8:00am this morning. there remain 836 people with Covid-19 in hospitals around the state; down 56 on the same time yesterday, with a total of 78 of these patients being treated in intensive care units, down 10 on yesterday.

Today’s figures represent the lowest number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units around the country, since November 8th last, 2021.

According to the Irish Republic’s Covid-19 Data Hub Tracker, last updated yesterday January 19th, 2022, sadly, 6087 persons (including those probable and possible) have died since the pandemic began.

Northern Ireland’s Department of Health has confirmed a further 3,476 coronavirus cases today, down from 3,568 cases reported yesterday.

There remain 398 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, down from 402 reported yesterday, with 24 patients with Covid-19 in their hospital intensive care units.

The Northern Ireland Department of Health has, sadly, also reported 5 Covid-19-related deaths today, bringing their deaths tally to 3,067 in total since the pandemic began.

Killer Covid-19 Cases Today Reach 14,729 On Irish Mainland – Up 279 On Yesterday.

The Department of Health here in the Irish Republic, has confirmed 6,597 additional PCR-confirmed cases of Covid-19, as well as 4,564 positive antigen tests, registered through the HSE portal; thus confirming in all a total of 11,161 new virus cases, within our Republic in the past 24 hours, an increase of 590 new cases on yesterday.

As of 8:00am today, 892 Covid-19 patients were in our Republic’s hospitals, down 4 on yesterday, with 88 of these in intensive care units also down 2 on yesterday’s reported figures.

The National Public Health Emergency Team in the Irish Republic yesterday gave the green light to the ending of most Covid-19 public health restrictions, with the proviso that only mask wearing, Covid passes for international travel and isolation when symptomatic, remain in place.

As I write, the Republic’s Cabinet is considering proposals for bars and restaurants, to possibly allow for a resumption of normal trading hours, beginning from tomorrow. Physical distancing could also end from tomorrow, with a return to the office on a phased basis beginning on Monday. Restrictions on indoor and outdoor events, are also expected to be removed from tomorrow.

An extension of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment for a short period, is also likely beyond February 7th, when it was due to drop back to €207.00

Northern Ireland’s Department of Health have confirmed a further 3,568 coronavirus cases today, down from 3,879 cases reported yesterday.

There are 398 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in Northern Ireland, down from 402 yesterday, with 24 patients with Covid-19 remaining in their hospital intensive care units.

Sadly, also Northern Ireland’s Department of Health has reported 6 Covid-19-related deaths today, bringing their total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 3,062.

Killer Covid-19 Cases Today Reach 14,450 On Irish Mainland.

The Department of Health here in the Irish Republic, has confirmed 5,523 additional PCR-confirmed cases of Covid-19, as well as 5,048 positive antigen tests, registered through the HSE portal; thus confirming in all a total of 10,571 new virus cases, within our Republic in the past 24 hours.

These latest figures show the number of patients with Covid-19 in hospital at 896 and of these, 90 patients are being treated in ICUs – unchanged from figures reported yesterday. So far this January, there have, sadly, been 66 Covid-19 deaths.

An Taoiseach Mr Micheál Martin has publicly stated that he believes people can look forward to an earlier lifting of restrictions, with same possibly happening next week.
Urging people to get the booster vaccine, if they are eligible, he warned that mask wearing will be an important feature going forward and he also believes that public health advice will maintain that thinking.

Northern Ireland’s Department of Health has confirmed 3,879 coronavirus cases today, down from 4,451 cases confirmed yesterday.

Today, there were 402 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in Northern Ireland, down from 404 reported yesterday, with 24 of these patients remaining in hospital intensive care units.
The Northern Ireland’s Department of Health has also, sadly, reported 2 further Covid-19-related deaths today, bringing their total number of deaths, since the start of the pandemic, to 3,056.
