Death Of Anne Crowe, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great personal sadness that I learned of the death, today Tuesday 7th March 2023, of Mrs Anne Crowe (née Cantwell), Kennedy Park, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Bellair, Ballycumber, Co. Offaly.

A lady who brought tremendous joy to the lives of all those whose path she crossed and predeceased by her husband Willie, daughters Roseanne and Ann, sisters Elizabeth (Purcell) and Rose (Barrett); Mrs Crowe passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, under the care of staff at the Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles; Tipperary University Hospital and the Whitfield Clinic, Waterford.

Her passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her devoted family, sons Jim and Liam, daughter Frances, grandchildren Brian, Melissa, Louise, Michelle, Ian, Ciaran, Aoife, Garry (and his wife Rachel), Allan (and his partner Samantha) and Emma (and her fiancé Mark), daughters-in-law Eleanor and Noreen, Frances’s partner Hughie, son-in-law Brian (Moore), great-grandchildren, sisters Mai, Frances and Phyllis, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended relatives, good neighbours and great friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Crowe will repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on Saturday afternoon, March 11th, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening.
Her remains will be received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles on Sunday morning, March 12th, at 10:30am, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am.
Interment will take place immediately afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Joan Fitzgerald, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Monday 6th March 2023, of Mrs Joan Fitzgerald (née Ceaser), Bohervaroon, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Pat and infant daughter Siobhán; Mrs Fitzgerald passed away peacefully, following a short illness, surrounded by her loving family, while in the care of staff at Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

Her passing is most deeply regretted and sorrowfully missed by her five sons Jim, Tom, Paud, John and Bill, grandchildren Siobhan, Lottie, Aislinn, Patrick, Aine, Joseph, Oscar and Harry, daughters-in-law Sandra, Erika and Leanne, sister-in-law Mary, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, former colleagues in nursing, neighbours and many friends.

Dr. Ciarán Kissane Appointed Director Of Film Classification At Irish Film Classification Office.

The Minister for Justice, Mr Simon Harris TD, has today announced the appointment of Dr. Ciarán Kissane as the new Director of Film Classification in the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO).
Dr. Kissane’s appointment follows an open competition run by the Public Appointments Service.

Announcing the appointment Minister Harris said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Ciarán Kissane, who will bring a wealth of professional experience to this important role.
The important work undertaken by the IFCO ensures that the public, and parents in particular, have a modern and dependable system of classification to enable them to make informed viewing choices for themselves and importantly for those minors for whom they are responsible.”

Speaking about his new role, Dr. Kissane said: “I am delighted to be appointed as Director of Film Classification in the Irish Film Classification Office in its centenary year. I look forward to continuing the long standing and important work of the IFCO over the next 5 years”.

The Irish Film Classification Office was established in 1923 by the Censorship of Films Act 1923. The IFCO’s role was further expanded under the Video Recordings Act 1989. The IFCO is one of the oldest agencies in the State; however it has embraced change, transparency and modernisation in recent years and will continue to evolve with Irish society.

In 2022, the IFCO received 979 cinema submissions for classification (consisting of 438 films, 8 short films and 533 trailers) and 1532 video/DVD submissions, including 20 video games rated as 18, by the Pan-European Game Information system (PEGI).

Death Of Kitty Ryan, Late Of Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Monday 6th March 2023, of Mrs Mary Catherine (Kitty) Ryan (née Cantwell), Fairview, Dublin and late of Knockroe, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

In her 104th year, and pre-deceased by her husband Timmie, sister Nell and brother Tony, Mrs ryan passed away peacefully, while in the loving care of her family and staff at Beechlawn Nursing Home, High Park Estate, Grace Park Road, Drumcondra, Co. Dublin.

Her passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her daughters Mary, Anna, sons Willie and Vincent, grandchildren John, Maria, Catherine, Robert, Paul, Eoin, Anthony, Aoife, Ella and Bence, great-grandchildren Ryan, Archie, Ailia, Joey, Abigail, Órla, Mia, Maisy, Max, Naevia, Eloise, Evie and Cooper sons-in-law Ken and Pete, daughters-in-law Thérèse and Ruth, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Her remains will be received into the Church of the Visitation, Fairview Strand, Fairview, Dublin, on Friday morning, March 10th at 11:15am, to further repose for Requiem Mass, followed by interment in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, St Fintan’s Crescent, Sutton North, Co. Dublin.

Thurles St. Patrick’s Day Parade Update.

Welcome To Our 2023 **Thurles** **St. Patrick’s Day Parade**.

Mr Johnny Kenehan (Chairperson St. Patrick’s Day Committee) Reports: –

The Thurles St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee are delighted to announce that for this year’s St. Patrick’s Parade 2023, we have very special guests; two young extraordinarily brave siblings Micháel Bourke and Katie Butler Haughney from Tipperary, who rescued their 2-year-old brother Daniel from a waterhole on February 11th 2020.
For their bravery and quick thinking Micháel and Katie were awarded a Bronze Medal. They will be invited onto the reviewing stand as Guests of Honour and feted for their efforts. Two great heroes in a world of need of such young inspiring people.

Further update on this year’s parade. [March 17th, 2023]

This years parade will assemble at 1.30pm and start at 2.15pm in Abbey Road at JYSK .

Liberty Square will be closed off from traffic at the Slievenamon Road junction from 2:00pm with no entry unto lower Liberty Square, [Diversions will be in place].
Entry from Cathedral Street will also close from 2:00pm and traffic will be diverted via Emmet Street.

Heavy vehicles in the parade will enter Cathedral Street, to turn at the roundabout for dispersal also onto Emmet Street.

The Reviewing Stand, this year, will be placed outside McMahon’s Shoe Emporium and Heyday Coffee House, with the public viewing space on the opposite path. Barriers will be in position from Butler’s Castle to the traffic lights.

Note: We are still welcoming entries for the 2023 Thurles Parade and we look forward to all clubs, schools, organisations and businesses participating.
