Death Of Mary Nelson, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Friday 21st July 2023, of Mrs Mary Nelson (née Connolly), Newton-Le-Willows, Merseyside, England and formerly of Ballypatrick, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Harry; Mrs Nelson passed away peacefully, following a sudden illness, surrounded by her family.

Her passing is most sadly missed and deeply regretted by her loving daughters Paula, Susan and Sharon, her son Jim, brother Paddy (Connolly), sisters Alice (Ryan-Simon) and Joanna (Connolly), sons-in-law Des and Dave, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Nelson will repose for Requiem Mass on tomorrow, Thursday, August 17th, in the Church of St. Mary and St. John, Newton-Le-Willows, U.K., followed by interment immediately afterwards in Newton Cemetery.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Laurence O’Toole Church, Inch, The Ragg, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, on Friday, August 25th, at 7:30pm.

Thurles Park Play Area Safety Surface Damaged By Vandals.

Here in Thurles, certain ‘uncouth barbarians’, making up about 1% of our local community, have begun tearing up strips of the pour-in-place rubber safety surface, located in our town’s much appreciated town park play area.

When introducing the surface for this Thurles play area, within the Thurles park, the most important consideration by Council officials was always safety. Thus pour-in-place rubber (also known as PIP rubber surfacing) was wisely introduced.

Poured rubber surfacing is durable, soft and specifically designed to be extremely shock-absorbent. This surface, depending on climate, remains soft with a life span of at least 15 years before requiring resurfacing.

Just 4.5 inches of this poured rubber exterior provides a surface on which any child can safely land, from a 10-foot fall, reasonably safely.
Parents and district council administrators do not have to worry about chemical sensitivities, since this rubber is manufactured using only high quality rubber, same manufactured from natural materials, thus the rubber coating is designed to resist cracks, which could be caused by severe temperatures and all types of weathering.

The torn strips of rubber, shown in the images above, are therefore the work of vandals, intent on destroying the happiness of hundreds of parents and children who actively enjoy this most magnificent facility.

Where is our €100,000 Thurles CCTV facility?
While we are unable to totally clarify, we understand that the Thurles CCTV system has not properly functioned since early 2017, and while just some of the cameras continue to work today, the actual recording equipment itself, has fully ceased in its capacity to function.
Perhaps someone could further clarify the situation.

Chaos At Thurles ATMs Following Bank Of Ireland Glitch.

Bank of Ireland reports that a technical issue which impacted on a number of its IRT services has now been rectified.

Same service glitch meant that customers were able to transfer and withdraw funds that did not actually exist in their personal bank accounts.

Queues formed at ATMs across the country last night, as people rushed to withdraw cash, after transferring non-existent funds to their Revolut accounts.
There are reports on Social Media of mass purchases of cigarettes, TVs, petrol & diesel.

Apologising for the impacted services, this morning, Bank of Ireland have confirmed that in such cases the transfers and withdrawals will be fully applied to customer accounts today.

They are also urging any customers who may now find themselves in financial difficulty, because of withdrawals on their account, to make contact with them.

In a statement the bank said “Overnight payments to accounts may appear throughout the day. We are aware that the technical issue meant some customers were able to withdraw or transfer funds above their normal limits. These transfers and withdrawals will be applied to customers accounts today. We urge any customer who may find themselves in financial difficulty due to overdrawing on their account to contact us. We sincerely apologise for the disruption this outage caused – we know we fell far below the standards our customers expect from us.”

Death Of Aidan Wall, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Tuesday 15th August 2023, of Mr Aidan Wall, Rathfarnham, Dublin and formally of Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his brothers Jerry and Denis; Mr Wall passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family, while in the care of staff at Dunboyne Nursing Home.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his daughter Louise, sons Peter, Stephen and Patrick, son-in-law Michael, daughters-in-law Sandra, Orla and De, his treasured grandchildren Oisín, Tigernach, Ruarí, Fiachra, Donnacha, Cillian, Seán and Saoirse, his brothers Tony and Michael, sisters Helen and Patty, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

A ‘Celebration of Life Service’ will take place at 11:30am on Saturday morning, August 19th 2023, at Fanagan’s Funeral Home, Willbrook, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14, followed by interment, immediately afterwards at Mount Venus Cemetery, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.

Pedestrian Struck By Haulage Truck In Thurles Town Centre.

For the second time in 5 days a serious collision has brought Thurles traffic to a total standstill.

The accident, this afternoon, involving a large haulage truck and an elderly male pedestrian, happened at between 3:00pm and 3:30pm at the junction of O’Donovan Rossa Street and Liberty Square in the town.

Two ambulances together with paramedics and a large number of Gardaí quickly attended the scene, to assist and investigate the incident, and to direct, where possible, traffic which remained totally congested.

The elderly male pedestrian, understood to be from the immediate locality, was, we understand, seriously injured and has been transferred to hospital by ambulance.

This is the 3rd pedestrian to be struck by motorised vehicles in the Liberty Square area, since 2018, following so called traffic calming measures introduced into the area, latter which has now destroyed the business centre of Thurles and has granted pedestrians a false sense of safety.

As of 6:30pm this evening all traffic hoping to proceed eastward on Liberty Square are prohibited from doing so, and motorists are advised to avoid the centre of Thurles altogether.
