Death Of Nancy Tinch, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Wednesday 20th September 2023 last, of Mrs Nancy Tinch (née Kennedy), formerly No. 4 Banba Terrace, Kickham Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Pat and son Michael, her parents Paddy and Bridie, sister Mary (Hogan), brothers Philip, Tommy and Gerard; the passing of Mrs Tinch is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving sons Derek and Kevin, daughters-in-law Loretta, Donna and Dawn, adored grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister Teresa (Meaney), nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Tinch will be received into the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Bowes Road, Arnos Grove, London, UK, on Friday morning, September 29th, at 10:00am, followed by a cremation service at 11:00am at New Southgate Crematorium, Brunswick Road, London.

Security & Protection Review Announced For Oireachtas Members & Staff Working On Oireachtas Campus

The Garda Commissioner is to undertake a new security and protection review of TDs, senators, their staff and people working on the Oireachtas campus.

The chairs of the respective parliamentary parties and parliamentary groupings in the Oireachtas, and representatives of the staff and media working in Leinster House, will be asked to contribute to the review and will be met with, as part of this process.

This will allow those working in the Oireachtas to give their views on general security and protection, including their work in their constituencies, as well as on the security approach to parliamentary set days, such as Budget Day and the first sitting of Dáil terms.

This review will be concluded by the end of October and full details will be provided to the Minister for Justice Mrs Helen McEntee TD .

Officials have been asked to examine whether existing legislation is sufficient to deal with intimidation centred on our democratic institutions, including consultation with the Attorney General on this matter.

The Commissioner’s review will also feed into other work being carried out under the auspices of the Oireachtas and elsewhere, such as:-

The Task Force on Safe Participation in Political Life.
A review of security announced this week by the Ceann Comhairle.
The potential impact of the new security allowance for members of the Oireachtas, which was introduced earlier this year.

An Garda Síochána constantly monitors the security of elected representatives.

A recent assessment of security for office holders has led to increased protection over recent years and each Garda Division has a Crime Prevention Officer who is qualified and tasked to liaise with and provide advice to elected representatives.

Serious justifiable concerns have arisen in light of the recent incidents involving protests.

Death Of Mossy Mullins, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Thursday 21st September 2023, of Mr Tomás (Mossy) Mullins, Graigue, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Mullins passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, while in the care of staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his wife Bríd, his daughter Máirín, his brothers Canon Tadhg (Manchester) and Padraig, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Mullins will repose at his residence at Graigue, Killenaule (E41 P650) on Wednesday afternoon next, September 27th, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm same evening.
His remains will be received into the Church of St. Mary, Bailey Street, Killenaule to further repose for Requiem Mass on Thursday at 12 noon, followed by interment in Crosscannon Cemetery, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Urgent Action To Improve Ireland’s Household & Commercial Waste Segregation Performance.

EPA Calls For Urgent Action To Improve Ireland’s Household & Commercial Waste Segregation & Recycling Performance.

Over two thirds of wastes in general waste bins could have been placed in the recycling or organic waste bins.
Food waste in commercial general waste bins is 30 per cent and in household general bins is 17%.
Plastics in the general waste bins are also significant for households (17%) and businesses (15%).
The rollout of organic waste bins to all houses, apartments, and commercial sectors needs to accelerate without delay.

he Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has today published the latest National Municipal Waste Characterisation Project. The project results show very little change in Ireland’s household and commercial waste management practices since 2018. Irish businesses and householders are still putting the majority of their waste into the wrong bin. Over two thirds of waste in the general waste bins could have been placed in recycling and organic waste bin.

Food waste is the most common waste in commercial general waste bins (30%) and household general waste bins (17%). Thousands of households and businesses still do not have an organic waste bin and correct food waste segregation cannot be achieved until this is addressed.

Recyclable materials such as plastics, paper, cardboard and metal account for around 24% of the household general waste bin and 37% of the commercial general waste bin.

Urgent action is needed to improve Ireland’s segregation and recycling performance to achieve municipal recycling rate targets and transition to a circular economy. The waste industry needs to do more by providing organic waste bins to all households and commercial premises and support awareness campaigns to make segregation easier.

Commenting on the results, Mr Micheál Lehane, (Director of the EPA’s Office of Environmental Sustainability), said “The results of the latest municipal waste characterisation are disappointing. Currently businesses and householders are putting recyclables, food waste and packaging waste into our general bins. This is a lost opportunity. Organic waste bins need to be rolled out urgently to businesses and households currently without this service. Implementation of the new commercial waste regulations is needed without delay.”

Access to recycling infrastructure, such as civic amenity sites and bring banks, needs to be made easier for householders to support segregation of special, bulky and hazardous wastes.

The rollout of organic waste bins to houses, apartments, and commercial sectors needs be enforced to ensure waste collectors are providing the same level of service to customers.

Mr Warren Phelan, (Programme Manager of the EPA’s Circular Economy Programme) noted: “Our recycling targets and transition to a circular economy are currently off track. There are significant opportunities to divert recyclable materials from the general waste bin, but householders and the commercial sector need more support from the waste industry to make it easier to segregate their waste correctly. Targeted awareness campaigns on segregation and focused enforcement activities are also needed.”

Death Of George Stapleton, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Thursday 21st September 2023, of Mr George Stapleton Gorteen, Coalbrook, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents Michael and Bridget and his brother Michael; Mr Stapleton passed away peacefully while in the care of at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny city, Co. Kilkenny.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving sisters Breda, Geraldine and Margaret, his adoring nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Stapleton will ropose at Doyle’s Funeral Home, Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny, on Friday afternoon from 5:00pm until 6:30pm, before being received into the Church of St. Oliver and St. Patrick, Glengoole Thurles arriving at 7:30pm on same evening.
Requiem Mass for Mr Stapleton will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 11:00am followed by cremation in The Island Crematorium, Rocky Island, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.
