County Tipperary and Thurles are expected to gain a significant lift in terms of Revenue spin-off, if an expected 10,000 or more visitors gather for the Clik Pour-On, All Ireland and International Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships. The event just across the border in Kilkenny, is taking place over this coming June bank holiday weekend and will be held at the Cillín Hill exhibition centre, a 28-acre agribusiness development, owned and operated by Kilkenny Co-operative Livestock Market Ltd.

Details of the event, which will see competitors from all parts of Ireland, from Britain, Australia, New Zealand and mainland Europe, were confirmed yesterday in Kilkenny. The event will coincides with the long-established Cats Laugh Comedy Festival, in the city.

The National Sheep Breeders Association confirmed a number of its breed societies will host the All Ireland championships at the event and it is likely that the Young Sheep Farmer competition will also be staged.

The organisers predict the championships will be a massive revenue-spinner in tourism terms for the Southeast and surrounding counties. The two-day festival will also be a major showcase for Trade, with Craft and Food exhibitors being offered exhibition space at very affordable rates.

Mr Michael Nolan, chairman of the organising committee, said the focus would be on helping craft exhibitors and indigenous artisan producers, showcase their quality goods, without having to spend a fortune.

Irish Farmers’ Association president, Mr John Bryan said the championships would attract farmers from all over the country. He forecast: “Higher lamb prices and additional direct payments have helped restore huge confidence to the sheep sector and it is essential that strong lamb prices during 2010 are now continued into 2011.”

Earlier this week meat plants paid sheep farmers up to 600c/kg for the first of this years spring lambs.

This Saturday, March 5th, as part of Ireland’s World Book Day celebrations, Bookworm, Liberty Square, Thurles, Co.Tipperary, the leading local book retail store, are having a “Story Telling Morning” from 11.00 am sharp to 2.00 pm.

So why not bring along the kids to have their faces painted and get their imaginations working overtime, while you, the parents can enjoy a delicious coffee and some other delicious baked treats.

Remember the words of journalist Edward P. Morgan:-
A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face.  It is one of the few havens remaining, where a man’s mind can get both provocation and privacy.

A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you, yet continues to remain a friend, so don’t forget to bring your World Book Day vouchers with you.

Bookworm will be looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

Nenagh Open Coffee Club Re-Launches

Nenagh Open Coffee Club

After an absence of several months the Nenagh Open Coffee Club is launching again on Saturday March 12th next, in the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh.

Open Coffee Clubs were originally begun to encourage entrepreneurs, developers and investors to organise real-world informal ‘meet-ups’ to chat, networks and grow.

The events are for anyone who runs a business, thinking about starting one, interested in investing in one or who has any sort of interest in business AND who is willing to meet like minded people, in order to share thoughts and experience, in order to improve the business environment in their area.

The Nenagh event is organised by Mr Evert Bopp, serial entrepreneur and founder of a number of business support programmes across Ireland.
Mr Bopp stated:-

In the run-up to the general elections I have studied the economic and social environment of North Tipperary again and what I saw was worrying.  Jobs were being lost at an alarming rate, businesses were closing at an alarming rate and 3 years into the depressions there was still no cohesive action being taken to address this trend. The Nenagh Open Coffee Club is a grassroots approach to tackling these problems by bringing entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and other like-minded people together and in a informal surroundings we will create an environment of sharing and exchange. This has proven to lead to a more productive and healthier business community. People learn from each other and eventually deals are done. This is not a hard-sell or a pitching event. I am looking forward to meeting lots of members of the North Tipperary business community on March 12th and hope that some of the representatives of public sector organisation, as well as politicians that I have invited, will also deem the event worthy of their presence.
