X Factor Bosses Think Ireland Has No Talent

Bosses on the UK X Factor talent finding show have confirmed that no Irish auditions will take place this year.

The word on the street is that X Factor bosses won’t hold trials in Ireland this year, as British music executive, television producer and entrepreneur, Simon Philip Cowell thinks Ireland has no talent.

There’s outright outrage as Irish fans are being told Cardiff is only a stone’s throw away and we’re being told to audition over there. The audition application deadline has passed, but you can still audition at nationwide open days. Just make sure you turn up at 9am at the following times and venues:

  • March 20th: Birmingham NEC
  • March 26th: Manchester Old Trafford Stadium
(Metrolink has advised that there will be engineering works the weekend of the auditions, please make sure you look into alternative routes if you wish to come.)
  • April 9th: Cardiff City Stadium.

Maybe this small summary clip taken by me of Phoenix Productions at work at their recent ‘American Tea Party’ fund raiser, will whet his appetite.  The performers are all resident here in Thurles and can take on anything our Simon Cowell can put on show anytime.

Hello Simon Cowell, take off those sun glasses, accommodation and flights don’t come cheap and we don’t all enjoy the luxury and ownership of a private yacht!
We have a wonderful theatre over here in Thurles called The Source and we can let you have it for free for auditions if you have the stomach for it.

If the crowd gets too big, we can move up the road to Semple Stadium

Personally I believe Simon is afraid that the great talent that exists in Ireland, might affect his English acts and he is afraid when the Irish have a vote, same might just affect his little score sheets.
Take care Simon that we do not send some of out outstanding musical talent over to Cardiff City to prove how wrong you really are.
Probably not though, since the troupe will be in full rehearsals for their next production, which is Les Misérables. Such a pity really!

Then again, maybe RTE will rid us of that painful All Ireland Talent Show and replace it with a proper show, using a panel of judges who know something about music, instead of a panel of ‘self styled unqualified celebrities’ and one hit wonder merchants,’ who bore us to death every Sunday evening.

Bord Pleanála’s Casino Oral Hearing Concluded

Casino Gambling

Architect Mr Brian O’Connell told the third day of An Bord Pleanála’s hearing into the Tipperary Casino proposed for Two Mile Borris that the project “is predicated on the licensing regime” and would depend on the present Government’s decision regarding the upgrading of Casino Laws. “There’s a new economic opportunity within the market for providing conference facilities within a casino hotel, the one wouldn’t proceed without the other” he stated.

However, he confirmed this would not affect the rest of the proposed complex, as the horse-racing aspect of the project is supported by Horse Racing Ireland, which invited expressions of interest for the development of an all-weather track in the Munster region some years ago. Existing tracks in Thurles and Tipperary (Limerick Junction) are expected to close, if this Tipperary Venue now is given the green light.

During questioning by sustainable planning expert and barrister James Nix, representing An Taisce, Mr O’Connell stated that the urban locations of venues such as the O2 in Dublin and the Odyssey Arena in Belfast were “inappropriate“, due to the influx of large numbers of people flooding into an urban setting for a short period of time. This situation now offered “strong argument” for the building of such venues outside existing city locations.

North Tipperary County Council granted planning permission for the project last year but the case was appealed to the board by some local residents and An Taisce who expressed concerns, include the level of traffic generated by this venue. Other concerns include noise, carbon emissions, helicopter use, the distance from public transport and the sustainability of such large-scale development.

However, presently across Europe, cash-broke governments have the impression that their way to reduce widening budget defecates are by taking up online gambling, a source of revenue they once viewed with justifiable distrust. Lot of European countries are currently planning to legalize online gambling and these include Greece, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Denmark and France. Europe is the biggest online gambling market in the world and when this business is properly taxed, it will yield billions of euros to State coffers each year.

Presently large numbers of gamblers are being attracted towards Online Casino’s for the playing of Internet Poker and are moving sharply away from the land based Casino’s, as proposed for Two Mile Borris, Thurles, Co.Tipperary. This is since tax liability, in land based Casino’s is high and most of the offshore Online Casino’s remain out of reach of the dreaded tax collector. European governments are trying to bring this now indistinguishable business into the mainstream, by regulating and taxing them and bringing back worsening finances.

The Council of the  European Union last December in their ‘Conclusions on the Framework for Gambling and Betting in the EU Member States,’ reminded us that major financial contributions, in particular from State Lotteries or Lotteries licensed by competent state authorities, play an important role in society, via for example the funding of good charitable causes, as  presently with our ‘National Lottery’.  People have only, even in the best of times, limited funds for gamboling.  Their is now a real fear of the destabilizing of our state sponsored lottery, by allowing small  monopolies and private gambling operators to hijack this arena, without considering the well being of all our citizens, particularly under the guise of providing imaginary future employment and at any cost.

It is interesting also to note that those now pushing this agenda are amongst those that benefited greatly from exceptional treatment, doled out during the ‘Celtic Tiger’ era, namely those in the  Horse breeding industry, e.g. “covering fee,” which the European Commission have now deemed as an illegal form of state aid.

The hearing concluded yesterday, and a decision is expected by the end of this month.

Thurles Road Safety Week -183 White Crosses

Lives lost through road accidents this year.

Congratulations must go to Thurles Gardaí for highlighting Road Safety Week in Thurles, by the erection of 183 white crosses at Turtulla near Thurles Golf Club.

Each cross represents a life lost on the roads of Ireland  and stands as a visual reminder of how we all need to take greater care while driving.

Gardaí locally, also distributed 2000 free visibility safety vests and armbands, to members of the public in Thurles town over the course of the week.

The L.A.D.S. (Let’s All Drive Slower) initiative program has also been launched for local drivers who received free car stickers, as part of their commitment to drive slower on our roads.

Sobering Thought

For those of you who continue to drive drunken, unfocused, carelessly, showing no respect for the personal or public safety of others, is there any chance you might carry an Organ Donor Card. You can apply for same here or you can tick and sign the back of your current driving licences.

Your undamaged spare parts can then be removed /salvaged and come in handy in assisting others, who so greatly value that wonderful gift called ‘life‘.

Remember: Although you placed little value on your own life, after death this action will be of some small consolation to your distraught parents, grieving siblings and friends, for whom your total stupidity will also have life changing consequences.

Just a thought and well done Thurles Gardaí on your initiative.

Gardai Smash Toyota Land Cruiser Gang

Toyota Land Cruiser

Gardai yesterday successfully smashed a gang of local criminals, known to detectives and believed to have already grossed six-figure profits by the selling on of “manufactured” 4×4’s falsified from stolen and crashed vehicles.

This scam, which is known in the trade as ‘Cabbing’, (Meaning something retrieved from something else.) involves the buying of crashed 4×4’s from legitimate insurance companies. The chassis and engine parts are then fitted to stolen 4×4’s previously targeted by the fraudsters, because they are of similar make, model and colour. The finished product is then sold to unsuspecting buyers on known websites.

In the past year, 180 Toyota Land Cruisers have been stolen nationwide, with only 40 being recovered.

Gardai, as part of their investigations, raided some 25 premises based in counties Tipperary, Laois  and Wexford and have recovered nine 4×4’s in one search in the Portlaoise area. Gardai have also recovered five engines, a large amount of vehicle parts together with intelligence and vital information from documentation and computers records, seized in the raids.

The gang, based in the Midlands and south-east are believed to have UK links and have been operating successfully for the past 18 months.

It is expected that significant arrests will be made when further Garda inquiries are complete.

Computer Games Could Be Good For Kids

Tipperary Institute, Thurles, Co.Tipperary

According to leading computer games programming experts, and employers, the Computer Games sector is emerging swiftly with real potential for well paid future employment.

Speaking at the 2011 Games Fleadh at the Thurles campus of the Tipperary Institute, which is one of the most important annual gatherings for future computer game programmers attending second and third-level education, the CEO of Open Emotion Studios, Patrick Murphy said there is massive potential to develop a lucrative gaming sector here in Ireland.

We have the creativity and highly skilled graduates to create an indigenous sector and we would love to see Irish graduates establishing their own gaming companies in the future. This is one of few industries that has not experienced a downturn in the economy and is a sure bet to deliver jobs long term into the future. The Games Fleadh certainly gives  budding young computer game programmers an opportunity to put themselves on view in the shop window and we will be keeping an eye out for the best on show, as we are looking to scale up in the coming years.” Mr Murphy said.

Tipperary Institute said: “This year’s Games Fleadh saw students develop their own versions of the iconic Frogger Computer Game to mark its 30th anniversary.”

Looks like computer games could be good for kids after all.
