Young Girl Drowns In River Suir In South County Tipperary.

12 year old girl drowns in River Suir in South Co. Tipperary.

A girl, aged 12, has sadly died in a drowning incident in County Tipperary.

The girl is understood to have gotten into difficulty while swimming with a group of friends in the River Suir at Newcastle, shortly after 4:00pm this afternoon, (Friday July 11th).

Emergency services involving the National Ambulance Service; the Fire Services Swift Water Rescue Team and the Irish Coast Guard CHC Rescue Helicopter 117, responded to the scene, however the girl was found to be unresponsive.

The rescue helicopter airlifted the child to Cork University Hospital, but she sadly passed away a short time later.

The young girl has been named as Freya Tobin. A file will now be prepared for the coroners court.

Death Of John Ryan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great personal sadness that I learned of the death, yesterday Thursday 10th July 2025, of Mr John Ryan, Tonagha, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Ballyvillane, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his siblings Tony and Geraldine and niece Gerrine; Mr Ryan passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Crosspatrick, Co. Kilkenny.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; his loving daughter Catherine and son Eoin, brothers Edward and Pat, sister-in-law Barbara, brother-in-law Stephen, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Ryan will repose at Ryans Funeral Home, Nenagh, (Eircode E45 KN93), on Sunday afternoon next, July 13th, from 3:00pm before concluding with prayers at 4:30pm.
A service of cremation will takes place at Shannon Crematorium, Illaunmanagh, Shannon, Co. Clare, (Eircode V14 PV30) on Monday afternoon, July 14th at 4:00am.

It was with sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Thursday 10th July 2025, of Mr Frank Gooney, Ballytarsna, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his brothers Paddy, Mick, Joe and Bill, sisters Kat, Brid, Josie, Nell and Mary, the passing of Mr Gooney is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving brothers Jack and Ollie, sister Betty, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Gooney will repose at Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Thurles, (Eircode E41 XY47) on Saturday afternoon, July 12th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, same evening.
The funeral cortège bearing the remains of Mr Gooney will be received into the Church of St Peter, Moycarkey, Thurles on Sunday morning, July 13th to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment in the nearby Old Cemetery, Moycarkey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Irish Consumers Warned To Stop Using Certain Tower Air Fryer Models

Irish consumers are being asked, inthe interest of safety to refrain from using certain models of Tower air fryers, following a recall by the company.

Almost 60,000 affected models have been sold in retail outlets across Ireland according to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

These recalled air fryers are understood to have a manufacturing defect that can cause the defective appliance to overheat, potentially leading to a fire being ignited and thus the risk of serious injury or indeed death.

While as yet no incidents have been reported in Ireland to date, there have been reports in the UK of these same products igniting.

To this end, the CCPC is now urging consumers to check if they presently own one of the five affected models shown hereunder:-

  1. T17023 Tower 2.2Ltr Manual Air Fryer.
  2. T17061BLK Tower 4Ltr Manual Air Fryer.
  3. T17067 Tower 4Ltr Digital Air Fryer.
  4. T17087 Tower 2Ltr Compact Manual Air Fryer.
  5. T17129L Vortx 8L Dual Basket Air Fryer.

To locate the model number, consumers should unplug their air fryer and check the appliance rating label located on the rear end of their air fryer. The model number will begin with the letter T.

Consumers, who may have purchased one of the above affected models, are advised to stop using the product immediately, unplug it and contact Tower Housewares via the website towerhousewares.co.uk or email towerproduct@customersvc.co.uk.

These products Director of Communications at the CCPC Grainne Griffin said the recall “covers five Tower air fryer models with a dangerous manufacturing defect that could cause the models to overheat.were manufactured between the years 2020 and 2024 and were sold in various retailers including Tesco Ireland, Lidl, Argos, DID, Dealz, Tower Housewares website, through Amazon with other retailers possibly also be included.
