Death Of Michael Moynihan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Friday 8th October 2021, of Mr Michael Moynihan, Graniera, Milestone, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and Harlesden, Brent, North West London.

Pre-deceased by his parents Annie and Mick, brother Noel; Mr Moynihan, passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at South Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel, following a long illness, most bravely borne.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his loving partner Trish, brothers Paddy, Seán and Martin, sisters Eileen (Loughnane, Thurles), Marion (Graham, Thurles), nephews, nieces, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Moynihan will repose this Sunday evening from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at McCormack’s Funeral Home, Kilcommon, Thurles.
His body will be received into the Church of the Sacred Heart, Upperchurch, Thurles on Monday afternoon to further repose for Requiem Mass at 12.30pm, followed by cremation at Shannon Crematorium, Illaunmanagh, Shannon, Co. Clare.

Mikey Ryan Released From Hospital Observation.

“I haven’t seen you for at least a week”, said I, “Were you on holidays?”.
Mikey Ryan was wending his way towards The Arch Bar, through the labrinth of plastic bollards and wire railings on Liberty Square, as I was exiting the same venue.

“Between ourselves”, said Mikey “And this isn’t widely known, I was in hospital down in Limerick, with a suspected broken jaw”.

Not wishing to pry I asked, in jest, “Did you fall off your wallet again?”

“Not at all”, said Mikey, then lowering his voice he related to me a tale from which some men could do worse than pay attention.

“Truth is I was attacked by a woman in an elevator” Mikey stated in low tones.

“Tell me more” says I, “Was she local?”

“Not at all”, said Mikey, “She was from over Nenagh direction possibly; sure I don’t even know her name. Let me finish the story”.
“There was I already going down in the hotel lift on my own, when she got in on the fourth floor. A good lookin well-built bit of fluff, in her 30’s I’d say. She looked at me in silence, with her back to the rear of the elevator”.

Lowering his voice to a whisper Mikey Ryan continued, “I couldn’t help myself, throwing a series of casual glances sideways at her ample boobs, when she said to me curtly “Sir would you please press one”, so I did.”
“The next thing I remember after that”, confirmed Mikey, “was a paramedic crouched over me, in a speeding ambulance; sirens blazing, and this ferocious pain in my swollen left jaw”.

“And how did you explain that to herself indoors”, said I.

“Oh, I told her I fell backwards out of an indoor swing in the hotel”, said Mikey, “while having my photo taken. I said I was holding drink in both my hands, thus restricting my ability to balance and preventing myself from holding the ropes properly“.

“Listen I have to rush”, said Mikey, “I have a terrible thirst and Pat will be calling last orders shortly. Are you sure you won’t wait for one more?”.

“No can’t possibly”, said I, “Herself is gone to Bingo and she is insisting I watch the 11:00pm news and relate, when she returns, why Kate Middleton didn’t bond with Meghan Markle.”

Covid-19 Numbers Confirmed At 3,278 Today On Irish Mainland.

The Department of Health has confirmed a further 2,002 cases of Covid-19 here in the Republic of Ireland over the past 24 hours, up 766 cases compared to yesterday.

There remains 354 people in our hospitals having tested positive for the virus, reduced by 1, based on yesterday’s provided figures. Of these, 73 are in intensive care, a rise of 4 within the same time frame.

Counties faring best with coronavirus are: – Co. Tipperary , Co. Kilkenny , Co. Wicklow, Co. Wexford, Co. Cork, Co. Offaly and Co. Clare .

According to immunologist Professor Luke O’Neill, there is some evidence that the Delta variant of the coronavirus, may be as bad as it’s going to get.

Professor O’Neill stated last Tuesday that there is some hope that Delta may be the last throw of the dice for this particular virus. He also suggested that Covid-19 vaccines may ultimately require three shots to ensure people are fully protected for the long term.

In Northern Ireland, another 1,276 cases of the virus were confirmed by their Department of Health, in the last 24 hours; down from the 1,305 cases reported yesterday.

The latest northern hospital figures show there were 360 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals today, up 1 on yesterday. Some 35 Covid patients are being treated in their hospital intensive care units, up 2 on yesterday.

Sadly, 2 further coronavirus-related deaths have also been reported in Northern Ireland on today.

Visiting Restrictions Continue At U.H.L. In Response To A COVID-19 Outbreak.

Since Tuesday last, October 5th, 2021, there have been an escalation of visiting restrictions at University Hospital Limerick (U.H.L.), latter the medical facility serving North Tipperary; as the facility continues to manage an outbreak of Covid-19, same currently affecting 4 of their inpatient wards.

As a necessary precautionary measure; following a meeting of the Hospital Crisis Management Team last Tuesday, visiting restrictions have now been extended to all inpatient wards.

Restrictions on visits to the Emergency Department, Acute Surgical Assessment Unit, and Acute Medical Assessment Unit at UHL also remain strictly in force.

Hospital management sincerely regret any inconvenience this current ban on routine visiting causes for patients. Their outbreak control team continues to review the situation on a daily basis and hospital management has decided it is now necessary to impose these measures, in the interests of patient safety and keeping essential services open for all patients.

However, there are some exceptions to this visiting ban and same are published here as follows: –

Parents visiting children in hospital.
People assisting confused patients (e.g. dementia based on a case-by-case basis)
Compassionate grounds (e.g. for patients who are critically unwell or at end of life, again on a case-by-case basis).

All these exemptions are limited strictly to one person per patient only.
In cases where these exemptions apply, the facility strongly recommends that members of the public are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, before visiting U.H.L. to minimise any risks to patients and to other visitors themselves.

U.H.L. are also appealing to members of the public not to visit patients outdoors on the grounds of the facility, as such interaction can also present a Covid-19 transmission risk.

Walk-In Vaccination Clinic At Nenagh, Tipperary This Weekend

Sunday October 10th – Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh – Pfizer Dose 1 & 2 – Time 1:30pm-6:00pm.

Those attending for second doses should bring their vaccine record card with them. Please note that a minimum of 21 days must have passed after Pfizer Dose 1, before Dose 2 can be administered.
[This should be observed also for people who have received AstraZeneca Dose 1 and who are presenting for Pfizer Dose 2.]

No appointment is necessary for these clinics, and there is no requirement to register on the national vaccine registration portal. However, please note that children under 16 years must be accompanied to centres by a parent or guardian.

For identification, anyone attending should bring their birth certificate, or a photo ID (i.e., driving licence, Public Services Card, travel pass, passport, Garda-issued National Age Card, or school or college ID).
