The Department of Health here in the Republic of Ireland has confirmed 2,066 new coronavirus cases, within the past 24 hours.
There are 408 people being treated in hospital with the virus, an increase of six since yesterday, while the number of patients in intensive care units across the State stands at 69, a drop of 4 on yesterdays reported figures.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Simon Coveney has stated that the Government remains on track to move ahead with the removal of Covid-19 restrictions on October 22nd; unless compelling evidence is made available on current rising infection rates, suggesting that this forecast approach should change.
In Northern Ireland, over the past 24 hours another 1,471 cases of the virus have been confirmed.
Their latest hospital figures show there were 347 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals today, down from 368 on Tuesday. There remain currently 33 patients in northern intensive care units, 2 more than Tuesday’s total, with sadly 1 more coronavirus-related death reported.

As we posted on October 10th last; the decision to close the River Suir walkway to all pedestrians; [starting from the “Swinging Gates” at the junction of Thomond Road and Emmet Street, through to the junction of Slievenamon Road and Clongour Road.], forecast to commence on October 5th according to the Tipperary Co. Council website had failed to materialise.
Work eventually began yesterday, seven days late (October 12th) starting at the Thomond Road and Emmet Street junction. Currently the work being undertaken appears to be the installation of ducting to carry wiring for proposed future public lighting.
No drawings or details have been provided by council officials for this upgrade work, with those responsible claiming that such resurfacing of this existing pedestrian way and other works, does not require design drawings. They claim a Habitats Directive Assessment Screening Report has been carried out for this proposed work, with a local fisheries representative having been consulted.
Most people believe that this threatened upgrade is really to provide a cycling path, instead of the existing footpath, along the river bank, at the expense of leisurely pedestrian traffic and much badly needed seating areas.
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Monday, 11th October 2021, of Mrs Mary Grant (née Beatty), No.31 Castlequarter, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Pre-deceased by her parents; the passing of Mrs Grant is most deeply regretted by her loving husband Kevin, her family, Lorraine, Caitriona, Michael, Marguerite and Kevin, her 11 grandchildren whom she adored, her brother John, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and large circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements.
The earthly remains of Mrs Grant will repose at Ronan’s Funeral Home, Ballingarry, Thurles, on Thursday evening, October 13th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, followed by removal to St Mary’s Church, Bailey Street, Killenaule Thurles.
Requiem Mass will be held on Friday morning, October 14th, at 11:00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in Crosscannon Cemetery, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
The family of Mrs Grant would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of University Hospital Waterford for the care and compassion shown.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Tuesday 12th October 2021, of Mrs Josephine (Jo) McDonnell (née Phelan), No. 73, Carrigeen, Rivers, Annacotty, Co. Limerick and formerly of Templemore, Co. Tipperary.
Pre-deceased by her husband Seamus and son Billy; Mrs McDonnell passed away peacefully at her place of residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her immediate family; Mary, Eleanor and Denise, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother John, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours, and many friends, including those in Monaleen and Boher Bridge Clubs.
The earthly remains of Mrs McDonnell will repose at her home (Eircode: V94 D98C) on tomorrow evening, Wednesday, October 13th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, for family and close friends only.
Requiem Mass will take place at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Milford Rd., Sreelane, Castletroy, Co. Limerick on Thursday afternoon, October 14th, at 2:00pm.
Cremation will take place afterwards at Shannon Crematorium, Illaunmanagh, Shannon, Co. Clare.
For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Mrs McDonnell, but are unable to do so, due to current virus restrictions; same can be viewed online HERE.

The Department of Health has confirmed 1,466 new cases of Covid-19, here in the Republic of Ireland, over the past 24 hours.
There are 402 people being treated in our hospitals for the virus, an increase of two on yesterday. Of these, 73 patients are in intensive care units, down 2 from yesterday.
The positivity rate for Covid-19 within the community has started to rise, according to the Health Service Executive’s National Lead for Testing and Tracing, with unvaccinated people aged in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, are most likely to end up in our hospital.
In Northern Ireland, over the past 24 hours, another 1,278 cases of the virus were also confirmed by their Department of Health, up from 1,109 on Monday.
Latest figures show there are 368 patients with Covid-19 in Northern Ireland’s hospitals today, up from 314 on Monday. There are currently 31 patients in intensive care beds, 4 less than Monday’s reported figures. However sadly, 6 more coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland today.
