It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Wednesday 13th October 2021, of Ms Helen Cavanagh, Glenbower, The Willows, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Ballingarry, Roscrea, Co Tipperary.
Pre-deceased by her parents Kathleen and William and her sister Kathleen; Ms Cavanagh passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at St Teresa’s Nursing Home, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.
Her passing is most deeply regretted by her loving family; sister Gay (Finnan), brothers William and James, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, brother-in-law John, sisters-in-law Aldeen and Paula, cousins, St Teresa’s community, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.
The earthly remains of Ms Cavanagh will repose in the Abbey Church, Holycross, Thurles (former Cistercian Monastery), for private Requiem Mass, on Friday morning, October 15th, at 11:30am, attended only by family members.
Interment will take place immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.
For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Ms Cavanagh, but are unable to do so, due to current virus restrictions; same can be viewed online HERE.

Pre-deceased by his wife Peg; Mr Brennan passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Crosspatrick, Co. Kilkenny.
His passing is most deeply regretted by his loving daughter Margaret, son-in-law John, grandchildren Angela and Richard, Angela’s husband John and Richard’s wife Emma, great-grandchildren Freya, George, Eloise and Vinny, sister Marie (O’Brien), nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours, and a close circle of friends.

Removal will take place on Saturday morning, October 16th, to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Gortnahoe, Thurles, to arrive for Requiem Mass at 11:30am.
Interment will take place immediately afterwards in Graine Cemetery, Ballinascary, Co. Kilkenny.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Tuesday 12th October 2021, of Mr Matthew (Matt) Patterson, No. 4 Lios Padraig, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Predeceased by his sister Molly; Mr Patterson passed away while in the care of staff at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Crosspatrick, Co. Kilkenny.
His passing is most deeply regretted by his brothers Neddie and Mick, sister Ann, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

His earthly remains will repose at his residence on Thursday evening, October 14th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with removal taking place on Friday morning, October 15th, to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am.
Mass will be followed by interment in St Brigid’s Cemetery Borrisoleigh, Thurles, immediately afterwards.

The Department of Health here in the Republic of Ireland has confirmed 2,066 new coronavirus cases, within the past 24 hours.
There are 408 people being treated in hospital with the virus, an increase of six since yesterday, while the number of patients in intensive care units across the State stands at 69, a drop of 4 on yesterdays reported figures.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Simon Coveney has stated that the Government remains on track to move ahead with the removal of Covid-19 restrictions on October 22nd; unless compelling evidence is made available on current rising infection rates, suggesting that this forecast approach should change.
In Northern Ireland, over the past 24 hours another 1,471 cases of the virus have been confirmed.
Their latest hospital figures show there were 347 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals today, down from 368 on Tuesday. There remain currently 33 patients in northern intensive care units, 2 more than Tuesday’s total, with sadly 1 more coronavirus-related death reported.

As we posted on October 10th last; the decision to close the River Suir walkway to all pedestrians; [starting from the “Swinging Gates” at the junction of Thomond Road and Emmet Street, through to the junction of Slievenamon Road and Clongour Road.], forecast to commence on October 5th according to the Tipperary Co. Council website had failed to materialise.
Work eventually began yesterday, seven days late (October 12th) starting at the Thomond Road and Emmet Street junction. Currently the work being undertaken appears to be the installation of ducting to carry wiring for proposed future public lighting.
No drawings or details have been provided by council officials for this upgrade work, with those responsible claiming that such resurfacing of this existing pedestrian way and other works, does not require design drawings. They claim a Habitats Directive Assessment Screening Report has been carried out for this proposed work, with a local fisheries representative having been consulted.
Most people believe that this threatened upgrade is really to provide a cycling path, instead of the existing footpath, along the river bank, at the expense of leisurely pedestrian traffic and much badly needed seating areas.
