Covid-19 Cases Reach 4,505 On Island Of Ireland Today.

Enough people are NOT adhering to very basic transmission-prevention practices, hence the rise in Covid cases.

The Department of Health has confirmed 3,024 new Covid cases, over the past 24 hours, here in the Irish Republic.

There are 458 Covid patients in our hospitals and of these 90 are in our ICUs.

Health Service Executive CEO Mr Paul Reid has stated that 3,500 staff are out of work, because of Covid-19 and on average 1,800 unvaccinated people each day are now coming forward to register for immunisation.

An Taoiseach Mr Micheál Martin has appealed for people to adhere to public health guidelines.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said additional or wider public health measures are not being contemplated within our Republic at the moment and a Covid-19 circuit breaker is not currently under discussion. However he did warn that if people socialise, they should be mindful of their contacts in the days immediately after, especially with regard to people they may meet, who may be immunocompromised or vulnerable to Covid-19.

Amárach research data has shown that 1 in 4 people who attended hospitality venues last weekend, were not asked for their Covid Cert, which should make for interesting legal cases into the future.

A further 1,481 cases of coronavirus have been reported, in Northern Ireland, over the past 24 hours, up from 995 cases recorded yesterday. Same represents a total of 279,810 cases of coronavirus having been confirmed there since the pandemic began.

Today were 378 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, with 41 Covid patients in intensive care units, up from 39 on yesterday.

Sadly, 12 more Covid-19-related deaths have also been reported in Northern Ireland today, with the total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in Northern Ireland since the start of the pandemic standing at 2,737.

The first anti-viral pill for the treatment of Covid-19 has been approved for use in the UK.

The poll, Molnupiravir, is for people who have had a positive Covid test and have at least one risk factor for developing severe illness, such as obesity; being over the age of 60; diabetes or heart disease.

Death Of Tommy O’Brien, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday, Wednesday 3rd November 2021, of Mr Thomas (Tommy) O’Brien, Garrynagree, The Commons, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr O’Brien, sadly, passed away suddenly at his place of residence.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Breda, his son JP, daughter-in-law Gillian, grandsons Luke and Jamie, extended relatives, neighbours and large circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr O’Brien will reposing at Dermot Ronan’s Funeral Home, Oakwood, Ballingarry (SR) Upper, Thurles on Saturday evening, November 6th, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Starting from his place of residence on Sunday morning, November 7th; his body will proceed to be received into the Church of the Assumption, Ballingarry (SR), Thurles, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 10:30am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

Tipperary Gardaí Seize Alprazolam Pills & Heroin.

On Tuesday afternoon last, Carrick-on-Suir Gardaí assisted by the Regional Dog Unit, Henry Street, carried out a number of searches in the town of Carrick-on-Suir.

Suspected Alprazolam pills and Heroin (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €3,350 was recovered during the course of the searches.

Alprazolam pills can slow or stop your breathing, especially if you have recently used an opioid medication, alcohol, or other drugs that can slow your breathing. This drug can cause birth defects or life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Misuse can cause addiction, overdose, and certain death.

No arrests were made, however, investigating Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.

Over a 12 hour period yesterday, Gardaí removed drugs with a market value of over €11,350, from Co. Tipperary streets.

New Pavement On Liberty Square Ripped Up Again.

For anyone out partaking of their daily coffee at ‘Deja Brew‘ on Liberty Square, in Thurles today, same most likely experienced a bit of ‘déjà vu’.

Déjà vu, as everyone knows, is that uncanny sensation that you’ve already experienced something that you actually never have.

Unfortunately, and I am not trying to confuse the local populace, in this case you already have, having suffered the digging up, over the past two years, of pavements on Liberty Square.

Now for the second time in less than two months, they are ripping newly installed footpaths up again.

We don’t really know why, but rumour suggests that they have discovered what was causing the dreadful smell of sewage, which was suffocating shoppers to the area.

Rumour, and we emphasize the word rumour, states that a pipe has collapsed and hence the renewed necessary exertions, which sees completed stone work ripped up after just a few weeks of completion.

Same might also explain why Drain Force vehicles have been reported at work in the Liberty Square area in recent weeks.

But sure, as Torquay builder Mr O’Reilly (Actor David Kelly) said to Mr Basil Fawlty (Actor John Cleese) in Faulty Towers “If the good Lord ment us to worry he would have given us things to worry about.”

Major Fire Currently Raging At Thurles Student Village.

Fire crews from Thurles, Templemore and Nenagh are currently dealing with a fire at four derelict houses in the area of Stradavoher, west of Thurles, in what was once a student village.
