Death Of Eddie McCarthy, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, of Mr Eddie (Edward) McCarthy, late of Cork and formerly of Gleann Rí, Holycross and Fethard, Co Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his infant brother Eric; Mr McCarthy passed away unexpectedly, while away from home.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his parents Rosie and Eric, sister Joan, grandmother Joanie (O’Neill), aunts Lizzie and Joanne, uncle Marty and their families, cousins Dean and Elaine.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr McCarthy will be received into the restored, former Cistercian Abbey Church at Holycross, Thurles, on Tuesday evening, February 1st, at 7:00pm.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, February 2nd, at 11.30am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in Crohane Cemetery, Crohane Lower, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended Requiem Mass for Mr McCarthy, but are unable to do so, due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic; same can be viewed online HERE.

Death Of Michael Perkins, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Thursday 27th January 2022, of Mr Michael Perkins, Ballyboy, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Perkins passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, while in the care of staff at University Hospital, Limerick.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Sheila (nee Berkery), sister Bridget and brother Oliver his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Perkins will repose at O’Dwyers Funeral Home, Upperchurch, Thurles, on tomorrow evening, Friday, January 29th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, before being received into the Sacred Heart Church, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, January 29th, at 11:30am, followed by interment in Kilvalure Cemetery, Drombane, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Joan Kennedy, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Thursday 27th January 2022, of Mrs Joan Kennedy (née Gallagher), ‘Ross Cottage’, Friar Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Sean (Latteragh, Borrisoleigh) and her sister Rose Roche (Dublin); Mrs Kennedy passed away peacefully following a short illness, while in the care of staff at Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary and Home Care.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her brother John (Kilmallock, Co Limerick), sister-in-law Mary, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, former colleagues at National Schools at Drom and Scoil Ailbhe, in Thurles, good neighbours, many friends (especially Kathleen Maher and Lucy McGann).

The earthly remains of Mrs Kennedy, will repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on Friday evening, January 28th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, before being received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles at 7.45pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, January 29th, at 11:00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in St Patrick’s cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Omicron Cases Reach 14,181 In Past 24 Hours On Irish Mainland.

Over the past 24 hours, the Department of Health in the Irish Republic have confirmed 9,938 Covid-19 cases; of which 5,265 are identified from PCR tests and 4,673 having logged on as having identified positive antigen tests, using the HSE portal online.

Across the Republic, there remain 708 patients in our hospitals with the virus, down 31 on yesterday’s reported figures, with the number of patients remaining in intensive care units, down three on yesterday; now standing at 71.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has conditionally approved the use of Pfizer Inc’s anti-viral Covid-19 pill, for use treating adults at high risk of severe illness. This expected endorsement for conditional approval, now allows EU member states to deploy the drug, after the regulator gave guidance for its emergency use in late 2021.

In Northern Ireland, another 4,243 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed today, down from 4,383 reported yesterday.

There were 387 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, down from 395 reported yesterday, with 22 of these patients, with Covid-19, in hospital intensive care units, a figure unchanged also from yesterday.
Sadly, 6 Covid-19-related deaths have also been reported in Northern Ireland today.

Please continue the downward virus hospital trend by getting your booster vaccination dose, as soon as applicable.

Death Of Bridie Gavin, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Thursday 27th January 2022, of Mrs Bridie (Bridget) Gavin (née Griffin), St. Conlon’s Road, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Parnell Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Recently pre-deceased by her beloved husband and best friend Ger; Mrs Gavin passed away peacefully at her place of residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her immediate family, daughters Deirdre, Marion, Claire, sons Gerry and Brendan, sister Mai Griffin and her husband Tommy, sons-in-law Peter Moynan, Dermot Dolan and Michael Ryder, daughters-in-law Carmel Deacon and Niamh Droney, adored grandchildren Sinead, Roisín, Jamie, Niamh, Eva, Mark, Jill, Liam, Ruth, Rory, Emma and Aoife, sister-in-law Bridie Gavin, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, kind neighbours, carers and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Gavin will repose on tomorrow afternoon, Friday, January 28th, at her home (E45 CY59), from 3:30pm until 7:00pm.

The funeral cortège bearing the body of Mrs Gavin will depart from her home on Saturday morning, January 29th at 10:15am, via Sarsfield Street and Mitchel Street, to be received into the Church of St. Mary of the Rosary, No.6 Church Road, Nenagh; to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am.
Immediately following Mass, interment will take place in Monsea Cemetery, Ballycommon, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.
