Collision Between A Pedestrian & A Motor Vehicle Near Thurles

Hurling fans travelling to Thurles this afternoon are strongly advised to avoid the N75 Dublin road.

Same is presently closed between Thurles and Two-Mile-Borris at Drish, following a collision, which we understand involved a pedestrian and a motor vehicle. The pedestrian was removed from the scene and taken to hospital.

We understand the incident occurred in the early hours of this morning, at around 3.00 a.m. Gardaí expect the road to reopen shortly, however motorists are asked to avoid the area for the moment.

Clare take on Cork in the Munster SHC final at Semple Stadium, Thurles later today (July 9th). Throw-in takes place at 4.00 p.m. and delays can also be expected through Thurles, particularly on the Nenagh Rd (R498) both before and after the match.

Temporary Closure Of Church Avenue, Templemore

A notice of intention has been posted by Tipperary County Council, making an order to close a section of road (L-3006-0) between the Fire Station and the School, on Church Avenue, Templemore, Co. Tipperary .

Alternative routes to avoid disruption: New Row (L-3008-0) and Bank Street (L-3009-0)

The reason for this closure is to install Electricity Supply Board (ESB) ducting, to allow for the diversion of overhead high voltage (HV) lines away from new the Fire Station extension

The period of closure is expected to last for about three weeks; from 7.00am on Monday July 24th 2017 until 6.00pm on Friday August 11th 2017.

Alternative Routes:
New Row (L-3008-0) and Bank Street (L-3009-0).
Access only to those living on the street will be facilitated.

Serious Collision On Thurles To Nenagh Road

A serious collision took place between two motorised vehicles on the Thurles to Nenagh road, shortly after 5.00pm yesterday evening.

Three units of the fire brigade; from Nenagh and Cloughjordan, together with ambulance personnel and Nenagh Gardaí all attended at the accident scene; latter situated near to the J.J. Kavanagh bus depot and Ballinamona Cross.

We understand that the driver of one of the motorised vehicles suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident, and was rushed to Galway University Hospital.

As a result, the road was closed for several hours between Latteragh and Ballinamona Cross, but was reopened again around 9.00pm.

Gardaí in Nenagh are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them on Tel: 067 31333.

Glastrigan Bridge To Be Reconstruction

Tipperary County Council has made an order for the temporary closing of the L2264 road at Glastrigan, Kilcommon, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Same order has been made under the Roads Act 1993-2015, (Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993), Roads Regulations 1994.

The period of this closure is expected to last from Monday 19th June 2017 to Friday 16th September 2017, in order to facilitate the partial demolition and reconstruction of a damaged bridge at Glastrigan.

Alternative Routes:
From Templederry via the L-2261 to the R498 to Thurles or via the R503 to Cooneen Cross and vice versa. Emergency access will be provided at all times and diversionary routes will be clearly sign-posted.

Any inconvenience caused to the public during this 12 week period is regretted.

Gardaí Out In Force Today For ‘Slow Down Day’

A reminder and warning that an Garda Síochána will be out in force today, running vehicle speed checks as part of their national “Slow Down Day” initiative.

The 24-hour operation began at 7.00am this morning right across the Irish Republic, with more than 1,000 separate speed checks expected to be set in motion.

During this day in 2016, Gardaí detected over 1,000 breaches of the law in relation to speed limits and were called to attend over 114 traffic collisions; with many classed as serious and one resulting in a tragic fatality.

Garda personnel this year, as part of a motorist education drive, will be providing road safety advice and handing out road safety leaflets, at identified busy locations. Same will highlight that nationally road deaths in 2016 showed a marked increase in fatalities, with most of the 188 road deaths linked to speed.

Statistically a 1% reduction in average driving speed will results in a 4% reduction in fatal collisions. A total of 61 people have lost their lives in crashes so far this year. Same figure represents a decrease of 12 persons compared with this time last year.
