Tipperary Atone Against Cork In Munster SHC

Yesterdays magnificent display by Tipperary against Cork, in front of 31,231 spectators, showed why The Premier County are All-Ireland champions.

Tipperary came through a gripping Munster SHC quarter-final against old rivals Cork at Semple Stadium this afternoon, atoning for last year’s ten-point embarrassing championship defeat against the Rebel County.

A remarkable second half saw Cork come from seven points down at half time to draw level, before Tipperary pulled away again, thanks in no small measure to substitute Benny Dunne’s goal four minutes from the end of normal time.
Tipperary led by 2-11 to 0-10 at the interval, as last years ‘Hurler of the Year ‘ Lar Corbett and team captain Eoin Kelly struck for goals minutes before the half way mark, aided by no fewer than six of Tipperary’s starting forwards who also registering their mark on the score board.

The second half saw the Rebels take control of mid field and haul themselves level with a run of seven unanswered points, levelling the score, but despite Cork having advantage of the wind, Lar Corbett managed an inspirational point, to again restore Tipperary’s momentary lost half time advantage.

In past matches Tipperary have sometimes appeared to loose steam in the closing minutes of play, but today the Premier County truly turned on the style closing the game with four fine scores, two from Seamus Callanan, who was playing his first competitive match of this year, following a broken collarbone.

Cork Ticket Sales Slow For SHC Clash With Tipperary

Tipperary manager Declan Ryan and his troops expect a tough opening to their defence of the All-Ireland title, when Cork come hunting in Semple’s Field, in the Cathedral Town of Thurles, this coming Sunday.

We may have brought home Liam McCarthy to the Premier County last September, but followers of Tipperary have no memory loss when it comes to Cork’s humbling, doled out to the champions on their first outing in Munster, last year.

Revenge will be uppermost in the minds of Declan Ryan and Co. as they plot a perfect defence, to ensure Tipperary’s perfect start to what should be a truly cracking encounter.

We learn however that the Cork County Board expect to sell only 3,000 tickets for this Sunday’s Munster SHC opener at Semple Stadium.

Rebel supporters traditionally travel in very large numbers to Thurles, and while a few thousand followers are expected to travel up on Sunday and buy their tickets at Semple Stadium, they are now expected to be heavily outnumbered by Premier County supporters.

Last year’s meeting between both counties attracted almost 37,000 spectators to Cork’s Pairc Ui Chaoimh, but it is thought that a combination of a disappointing NHL campaign and the current recession, will mean that some Cork supporters may choose to remain at home, for this Sunday outing at least.

Škoda Ireland and Tipperary GAA officially unveiled the new 2011 Jersey at Croke Park on Tuesday April 19th last .

Škoda Ireland’s three year sponsorship agreement, which begins following the 2011 National Leagues, will see the company invest approx €200,000 into Tipperary each year, as part of this sponsorship agreement.
