Frequenters of that most traditional of Tipperary drinking establishments ‘The Monks‘, located in Mitchel Street, Thurles, will be in Liberty Square today, Saturday 19th Dec 2015.
Patrons of the Monks public house are well known for their rendition of magnificent live music and ballads, so it is not surprising at this time of year that they should emerge from their hallowed, favoured, watering hole to bring festive cheer to Thurles town centre, during this Christmas period.
The Monks Choir can be found performing outside of Tesco today, singing Christmas Carols and collecting funds for local charities, which we all know desperately need our support so much; particularly at this time of year.
If you miss them today, not to worry, they will be performing outside the A.I.B. bank on the following day Sunday Dec. 20th; once again between 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
On their behalf a big thank you to all who gave so generously on previous years and note all moneys collected will be donated to their chosen charities before Christmas.
So do remember to halt awhile, listen in awe and join in, before dropping a little of your loose change into their collection buckets.

Romanian native and Tipperary resident Anton Banaghan, certainly wowed judges Simon Cowell, Nick Grimshaw, plus lovelies Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora on last night’s X Factor, with his impressive rendition of George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’.
The 21-year-old Anton, who moved here to Ireland with his adopted family, received four unanimous ‘Yes’ thumbs up’s from the judging panel after he performed last night on the final audition show of the 2015 X Factor season.
“I’m from County Tipperary and I am a part time bar man. I work in a local pub and they have open ‘mic nights’ where I get up on stage and entertain the locals,” he told the panel
“I have only been singing for about three years. I have not had any lessons. Singing makes me happy and I feel something that you can’t explain sometimes. My dream is to sell records, that’s what I want to do,” he continued.
All fingers will be crossed here in Tipperary for Anton tonight, in the hope that he will be among those selected to make it to the X Factor Bootcamp, under the ‘Boys’ category.
The televised programme goes out on TV3 tonight at 8:00pm.
Go Anton Banaghan, certainly the gorgeous Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is in your corner.
Still time to polish those dusty dancing shoes, with a six week’s course in social dancing about to commence in The Premier Ballroom, Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Tuesday next, September 1st,2015 at 8.20pm sharp.
These classes are suitable for anyone over 18 years of age, who may wish to learn the very basic steps of social dancing, (i.e. waltz, foxtrot and quickstep etc.).
The classes are ideally suited to the requirements of newly engaged couples, bridesmaids and grooms-men who may be somewhat fearful of participating in that first Wedding Day dance, or indeed it may be for some other future public occasion or simply just for everyday basic enjoyment.
Of course it goes without saying, dancing, apart from obviously being enjoyable and a way of making friends socially, is one of the best forms of physical exercise for those who find themselves glued to a desk 5 days a week.
The total inclusive cost of all 6 classes remains a meagre €20, which covers all the costs associated with this overall six weeks course.
An enjoyable six week course is guaranteed and this event is, as usual being organised and subsidised by the very generous, successful and professional ‘Thurles Club for Dancing.’
