 Cannabis sativa Three men have been arrested following a drug seizure at a cannabis ‘grow house’ here in Co Tipperary, where over a thousand plants of various maturities were found by officers, during a legal search.
The three men, one in his 40’s and two in their 50’s, were arrested following a seizure of both cannabis plants and cannabis herb, latter which is reported to have an estimated street value of some €700,000.
Both substances were recovered during searches of two premises at Boytonrath, Boreen, Kileenasteena, New Inn. A cannabis ‘grow house’ was discovered in the first premises, while a ‘drying house’ was located in a second premises.
A single barrel shotgun was also discovered during the course of the search.
The three men are currently being held in Tipperary Town and Cahir, Garda stations, under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
The search was undertaken by members of the Drugs Detective units in Tipperary town and Clonmel and included members of the Regional Surveillance Unit, the Regional Support Unit plus the Cork ‘Sniffer Dog’ Unit.
These arrests are part of continuing investigations in Co. Tipperary, into the sale and supply of drugs.
Gardaí here in Co. Tipperary will launch a new community policing initiative to be known as ‘Know Your Patch‘ on Monday next (April 27th). This launch follows on from the Tipperary Divisional Community Policing Seminar, which took place earlier in January of 2015.

Same will identify to residents their individual Community Garda member. This assigned Garda member will then in future become the individual point of contact in this area and will be available to assist and engage with residents, should support, crime prevention advice or assistance with initiatives such as ‘Community Alert’, ‘Neighborhood Watch’ and ‘Text Alert’ be required.
Commenting on the launch of ‘Know Your Patch’, the Chief Superintendent of the Tipperary Garda Division Catherine Kehoe stated; “An Garda Síochána in the Tipperary Division recognise and very much appreciate the valuable support and assistance from communities given to An Garda Síochána. As part of our review of our service delivery, incorporated under our Policing Plan 2015, Gardaí in the Tipperary Division intend to further improve service delivery, bringing about greater community engagement and ensuring greater visibility in community areas. I am committed to ensuring that community policing remains a priority for the Tipperary Division and I am looking forward to working closely with the community of Tipperary on a number of initiatives, in order to bring about a greater feeling of overall safety.”
 Four men who were arrested following a raid on Urlingford post office, latter situated on the Tipperary / Kilkenny border some 16 minutes (17.5km) from Thurles, all remain in Garda custody this morning.
The men were held overnight at separate Garda stations under section four of the Criminal Justice Act, allowing for them to be questioned for a total of 24 hours, before being released or charged.
A number of masked men entered the post office premises on Main Street in Urlingford just before 12.30pm yesterday. It is understood that they threatened staff and smashed a window using a hammer, before escaping with substantial cash in a getaway vehicle, latter which they set alight at Ardragh, before transferring to a second waiting car.
Reports that a female member of staff on the premises was injured has not been confirmed.
Gardaí quickly mounted a road blocks in the area resulting in three men, aged in their mid twenties, being arrested after their vehicle was stopped near the village of Freshford. A fourth man, in his forties, was later arrested in Kilkenny city.
Two men are currently being held at Kilkenny Garda station, while the others are being detained in Thomastown and Carlow Garda stations respectively.
A substantial amount of cash was recovered by Gardaí and Kilkenny Garda station (Phone: (056)7775000) would like to hear from anyone who may have information or observed any part of this incident.
UPDATE: Gardaí have charged four men, all aged in their mid 20’s–40’s, in connection with the robbery of a post office at Main Street Urlingford, which occurred on Monday afternoon, 20th April 2015.
The four men charged were remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Monday 27th April 2015 at 10.30am.
 Pardoned – Mr Harry Gleeson The recently pardoned Mr Harry Gleeson, latter wrongfully executed in Mountjoy Jail, Dublin in April 1941 for the murder of unmarried mother, Miss Mary (Foxy Moll) McCarthy, latter found shot dead in New Inn, Tipperary on November 21st 1940, now raises further controversy with the publication of a new book entitled “The Framing Of Harry Gleeson”.
The new publication, by author Kieran Fagan, has caused some disquiet here in Co. Tipperary, as its contents suggest possible names for the fathers of Miss McCarthy illegitimate children.
Unmarried mother Miss McCarthy had six children in total, all born to possibly five different married men and it is the naming of these possible fathers, all now long deceased, that appears to have re-opened old wounds in the village of New Inn, which heretofore believed time had erased its guilty secret.
Children born from these same men’s marriages are understood to be furious over new revelations that their fathers possibly had other children outside of marriage. This in turn has led to some demands to view this publication prior to its recent release on the grounds that it contains names of men, one of whom author Kieran Fagan believes was possibly responsible for Miss McCarthy murder.
The real culprits appear to be local ex-IRA men and this serious travesty of justice appears to have suited the local parish priest, Gardaí and indeed other apparently respectable family members whose sons, brothers and husbands may have fathered Moll’s seven children, one of whom was still in her womb at the time of her death.
Did Mary McCarthy’s daughter Mary, approaching her own death some fifty years later in a Dublin hospital, inform a nurse stating “I saw my own mother shot on the kitchen floor and an innocent man died ?” This publication will attempt to answer such questions, while also naming some of those involved in Harry Gleeson’s framing and details of the possible cover-up of the truth.
Harry Gleeson, who is to be awarded the first posthumous pardon in the history of the Irish State, was acknowledged as being innocent by the Irish Government just last month, following a full review of the case history.
 A boy, just six-year-old and from Co. Tipperary, has been taken into the care of the Child and Family Agency, following an investigation by Europol into European child pornography.
Last week an emergency care order, made at a District Court hearing in South Co Tipperary, was granted to gardaí and social workers. The order was given to remove a male child from where he resided and that an immediate medical examination be undertaken.
A social worker with the Child and Family Agency (Tusla) informed the court that Gardaí had first contacted her office on Monday, 24th March last, informing her that a search of a house in the county would be undertaken. Concerns, based on video footage of abuse uploaded online, that a child living at an address, may have suffered sexual abuse, were further conveyed to the agency .
This suspected abuse was communicated by Europol to the Garda Paedophile Investigations Unit in December 2014, latter who then traced same to a internet providers address here in Co. Tipperary. It is understood that social workers, in the company of gardaí, then searched the address and took the child immediately into care.
It is understood that detectives, involved in examining the discovered online information, identified that the boy in the house was indeed the child depicted in photographic footage and items found at the house including blankets etc. were also clearly identified. The child has now been removed and placed into foster care.
Over some 12 days experts in victim identification from 11 police agencies in nine different countries have worked together at Europol in an attempt to identify victims of sexual abuse and exploitation. It is now expected that future similar initiatives will result in a better chance of child victims being identified, through the combined effort of all European agencies.
