 A local Thurles man, aged 27, has appeared in court today; charged with the multiple stabbing of another male in his early 20’s; just outside Thurles Town centre, between 9.30pm and 9.45pm on last Saturday night. The accused attacker was arrested by Thurles Gardaí on Sunday morning and subsequently charged with assault, causing bodily harm.
The arrested man has been named as Mr Stephen Quinlan, with an address at Seskin, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. He was brought before Tipperary Town District Court today charged with several alleged offences including:- ‘Assault causing harm,’ ‘Criminal damage,’ ‘Possession of stolen property’ and Possession of drugs.
The youth who received several stab wounds in Saturday night’s incident, is understood to be in his early 20’s. He was rushed to hospital where he was treated for his injuries, before being later released.
Following objection by Thurles Gardaí to Mr Quinlan bail, the accused was remanded in custody to Limerick Prison until next Friday, when he will again be taken before Nenagh District Court to answer the charges.
 As part of the continuing commitment of Chief Superintendent Catherine Kehoe, of the Thurles Divisional Headquarters, to crack down on rural crime, Garda Chris Verling will now join his colleague Garda Mark Conway in Littleton this week.
Garda Verling will take up his post for an initial period; at least to the end of January 2016.
Garda Verling has spent the last 8 years stationed here in Thurles, with the most recent 4 years attached to the Community Policing Unit.
Mr Verling has been widely involved in a variety of community groups, projects and charity fund raising events here in Thurles; a role that we hope he will still continue in both Littleton and the Thurles area.
News of his new appointment has been warmly welcomed by the community of Littleton.
 Tipperary Gardaí are today probing the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body at a Tipperary recycling plant.
The body of a male believed to be in his mid 40’s was located at the AES recycling plant in Nenagh shortly before 10:00am this morning.
Reports, yet to be confirmed, state that the man’s body was located by workers shortly after they arrived for work at the AES Recycling Centre at Springford Cross, on the outskirts of Nenagh town.
Nenagh Gardaí were called to the scene and the area was immediately preserved for further examination.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was later taken to the University Hospital in Limerick, where a post mortem examination by the State Pathologist is expected to be being carried out later today.
The scene remains sealed off this evening and Nenagh Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to Telephone: (067) 50450.
UPDATE: The body of the deceased male found at the AES recycling plant in Nenagh by workers after they unloaded rubbish from a truck for sorting, is now believed to be a foreign national who had been living rough in Limerick City.
The State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has conducted a post mortem. The man was sleeping rough and may have gone to sleep in an industrial skip where he probably passed away. Evidence shows that the deceased was already in poor health, according to a Garda source.
Foul play is therefore not suspected and his next of kin are being contacted by the Gardaí.

A further eight people have now been arrested here in Thurles, following yesterdays series of early morning raids by Thurles Gardaí. This brings to twelve the total number of persons arrested yesterday.
Drugs with an estimated value in excess of some €2,000 were also seized, together with items of stolen property. We understand that the drugs seized consisted of the Class B drug Amphetamine Sulphate, (latter which bears the street name ‘Speed’) and a quantity of MDMA, short for Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, (latter the psychoactive drug more commonly known under a variety of names such as ‘Ecstasy’, ‘Molly’, ‘E’, ‘XTC’, ‘X’, ‘Adam’, ‘Hug’, ‘Beans’ and ‘Clarity’).
Of the 12 people taken into custody, the reasons for their detention, we understand, included ‘Serious Assaults’; ‘Arson’; ‘Outstanding Warrants’; ‘Possession of Illegal Substances’ and ‘Burglary’.
Of those detained, four are presently in Limerick jail; while another man appeared yesterday before a Judge in Nenagh District Court, charged with robbery and other theft offences in the Templemore area. The remainder of those detained were released without charge; however we understand files are expected to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
All arrests were made as a result of clever research, co-ordination and detection, undertaken by members of the Thurles Garda force.
This work yesterday, undertaken by Thurles Gardaí, further highlights the incredible service and commitment by our local police force, despite being totally under-resourced and with the failure of our present government to provide the necessary ring-fenced finance to fight current unprecedented rural crime.
There was a massive, high profile Garda presence here in Thurles town yesterday morning.
As part of ongoing ‘Operation Thor’, members of Thurles Gardaí in collaboration with the Garda Drugs Unit, the Regional Support Unit, the Traffic Corps and the Garda Dog Unit were all involved in a series of targeted raids.
During these raids local Gardaí detained and arrested four people, who are presently believed to be held in Thurles Garda Station.
It is also understood that during these early morning searches targeting burglaries across the country, certain items of property were seized.
Gardaí were also highly visible at local Supermarkets, Shopping Centres and the Cattle Mart in the town, offering advice on best security practices for homes and businesses in the area, particularly coming up to Christmas.
Local reports state that the raids were as a direct result of a burglary which took place at Ahearn’s Service Station Abbey road, Thurles, in the last few days.
