Gardaí, here in Co. Tipperary, on last Saturday, seized in excess of 1,300 rounds of live ammunition, which were located hidden in a wood in the county.
The ammunition, wrapped in plastic covering, was located by a member of the public, latter out social exercising in the Bishop’s Wood(Irish: Coill an Easpaig) area of Dundrum village, Co. Tipperary; latter just 24 km (25 min. drive) from Thurles town. The area of the find is also close to an International Scouting centre, near the Tipperary village.
Gardaí were immediately alerted and a technical examination and search of the scene and surrounding area was carried out, to no further avail.
The total wrapped consignment contained three packages each in turn containing different calibres of ammunition, and have now been forwarded for technical analysis by Garda ballistics experts.
To date, no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
The Garda believe the ammunition may have remained concealed in the Dundrum wood for some period of time, and indeed may date from the an earlier period in our troubled history; hidden by a then partially active IRA unit.
A male, understood to be aged in his 40s, was arrested yesterday; and has appeared court this morning, charged with a drugs offence.
The arrest and charge followed the seizure of €13,500 worth of suspected cannabis herb, here in North Co. Tipperary.
Just before 9:00pm last evening, Gardaí from Newport Garda Station, latter on Covid-19 patrol in the Shanbally area of Birdhill, spotted a lone parked car in a car park.
Following discussions with the driver; Gardaí carried out a search of the vehicle and located €13,500 of what is understood to be cannabis herb.

Gardaí have been busy over the past two days continuing to remove the curse of drug addiction from our towns and villages.
Yesterday, May 11th; as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and supply of drugs in the villages of Mullinahone, Drangan and Ballingarry (South Riding) areas near Thurles, Co. Tipperary; Gardaí from the Clonmel District Drugs Unit have seized some €60,000 of suspected Cocaine (pending further analysis), at, as yet, an undisclosed outdoor location, between the villages of Mullinahone and Ballingarry (SR).
As part of this ungoing investigation a follow-up search was further carried out at a building in Drangan Village this afternoon. During this search Gardaí seized a weighing scales, a vacuum packing machine, bags and other identified drug paraphernalia.
A man, aged in his 50’s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained for questioning at Clonmel Garda Station.
Officers from Tipperary Divisional Drug Unit, assisted by Newport Gardaí, seized some €50,000 worth of cannabis plants at a grow house in North Tipperary yesterday(Monday May 11th, 2020). The officers carried out the search shortly before 5:00pm.
A man aged in his 60s was arrested at the scene, before being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at Nenagh Garda Station. The man has since been charged and is expected to appear before Thurles District Court on Tuesday May 26, 2020.
During the course of the search, Gardaí found two rooms which had both been converted into growing areas. One of the rooms was located via a hidden doorway, latter concealed behind a shelving unit. Here cannabis plants, all at various stages of upward growth, were located in the rooms; the total amount having an estimated value of some €50,000.
Both the grow rooms were fitted with extractor fans, heaters, lighting and necessary irrigation systems.
All of the cannabis plants were seized by Gardaí and remain the subject of further analysis.
A caravan, latter stolen here in Co. Tipperary, has been recovered within hours in Co. Laois, by Portlaoise Gardaí.
The caravan, described as being in mint condition, was removed from the Clogheen area of Co. Tipperary, either late on Friday night last or possibly in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The events leading to its quick recovery yesterday prove, as if proof was needed, the importance of co-operation between law enforcement and the general public.
The stolen caravan was recovered yesterday, following a call from a member of the public to Gardaí; the former who reported what was described as “suspicious activity” in the area where the stolen property was located.
