Covid-19 Update: Wed. 13th Jan. 2021 – 63 Deaths – 3,569 New Cases


New confirmed killer Covid-19 virus cases in Tipperary.

With the first delivery of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine having arrived in Ireland yesterday afternoon; the Department of Health have confirmed this evening that sadly there has been 63 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,460.

There are 3,569 new additional virus cases reported today. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 159,144.

Of today’s cases nationally; 1,119 are in Dublin, 416 in Cork, 200 in Galway, 182 in Louth, 169 in Waterford, with the remaining 1,483 cases located across all other counties.

According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, to date there have been 3,268 recorded cases of the killer Covid -19 Virus within the borders of Co. Tipperary, an increase of 57 cases in the 24 hours relevant up to midnight on Monday, January 11th, 2021.

There are now 1,770 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 172 patients in intensive care units.

Health workers who had been deemed close contacts of a positive Covid-19 case, but who have received a negative test, have now been recalled to work in the health service.

In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 19 deaths from Covid-19 have been reported, taking the official death toll to 1,517. There are 1,145 new cases, taking their cumulative number of positive tests to 91,809.

Gardaí continue to ramp up enforcement measures, with fines of up to €400 being issued immediately to people who travel beyond five kilometres from their place of residence.

Note: Professor Luke O’Neill, an immunologist at Trinity College Dublin, has warned that there is still a risk of infection even after receiving any future vaccination; so people can not immediately go back to behaving like they did in the past. Instead we must still observe all the current health guidelines for the present.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at well over 91.7 million, with global deaths at well over 1.96 million.

According to the World Health Organization, the coronavirus mutation strain [VOC 202012/01, with higher transmissibility], first identified in the UK, has now spread to 50 other countries, while the similar South African-identified strain [501Y.V2, easily transmissible] has been located in 20 other such countries.
The Netherlands has now extended its coronavirus restrictions until at least February 9th next as infections remain high and the government is particularly concerned regarding this same UK variant of the disease.

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that sadly there has been 46 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,397.

There are 3,086 new additional virus cases reported today. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 155,591.

Of today’s cases nationally; 604 are in Galway, with 574 in Dublin, 466 in Mayo, 187 in Cork and 138 in Limerick; with the remaining 1,117 cases located across all other counties.

According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, to date there have been 3,208 recorded cases of the killer Covid -19 Virus within the borders of Co. Tipperary, an increase of 153 cases in the 24 hours relevant up to midnight on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

As of this morning, there were 124 patients with Covid-19 at University Hospital Limerick; latter the medical facility serving North Co. Tipperary.

There are now 1,700 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 158 patients in intensive care units. Thirteen hospitals are now listed as having no intensive care beds free.

The European Union’s chief vaccine negotiator, Ms Sandra Gallina, has stated that the European Union (EU) had bought all the anti-Covid virus vaccine it could, and that there would be abundant doses available in the second quarter of this year.

However, vaccinations in Ireland have increased by almost 800%, according to statistics from Our World Data. This information comes following the Minister for Health Mr Stephen Donnelly’s statement regarding the acceleration of the vaccine programme. At present, the only vaccine being used in Ireland is the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, however this is likely to change in the weeks ahead.

Fórsa, latter the largest Irish public service union has accused public service employers of flouting Covid-19 public health restrictions by forcing more people than was necessary to travel to work during the Level 5 lock-down reimposed last month.

Since January 1st, 2021, there have been 50 new confirmed outbreaks of the Covid-19 virus reported in nursing homes across Ireland.

In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 22 deaths from Covid-19 were reported.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at well over 91 million, with global deaths at well over 1.95 million.

People now travelling from Ireland join countries, including the US, Britain, South Africa and Sweden in having to undergo ten days of quarantine, in countries visited, following the World Health Organization’s warnings regarding the massive increase in Irish virus cases.

With our hospital system under the greatest pressure that has ever been experienced in living memory; the Department of Health have confirmed this evening that sadly there has been 8 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,352.

There are 4,929 new additional virus cases reported today. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 152,539.

According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, to date there have been 3,052 recorded cases of the killer Covid -19 Virus within the borders of Co. Tipperary.

There are now 1,421 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 146 patients in intensive care units.

Of today’s cases nationally; 2,250 are in Dublin, 695 in Cork, 320 in Limerick, 305 in Wexford, 225 in Galway, with the remaining 1,871 cases located across all other counties.

Ireland has the highest daily number of new confirmed Covid-19 cases in the world, for every million people, (1,394 cases per million), according to figures published by the Our World in Data organisation (linked to Oxford University); placing us ahead of the UK currently on 810, Portugal on 735 and the USA on 653.

Moderna has stated that deliveries of its Covid-19 virus vaccine to the EU and EEA Member States will begin today. Just last week the Minister for Health Mr Stephen Donnelly confirmed that Ireland had pre-ordered 875,000 doses of the vaccine.

Gardaí are to ramp up enforcement measures, with fines of €100 to be issued immediately to people who travel beyond five kilometres from their place of residence, for exercise. People found in breach of current increased Level 5 Covid-19 regulations will be informed of the penalty by the Gardaí, who stops them and they, in turn, will receive a fixed charge penalty notice through the post, which in turn must be paid within 28 days of issue.

In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 16 deaths from Covid-19 were reported, with another 759 new infections confirmed.

An Post has warned consumers that they could be waiting several weeks to receive parcels ordered and posted before Christmas, due to limits on international flights because of the pandemic.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at almost 90.5 million, with global deaths almost 1.94 million.

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that sadly there has been 8 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,388.

There are 6,888 new additional virus cases reported today. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 147,613.

According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, there have been 1,237 new recorded cases in the past 14 days, here in Tipperary, up until yesterday January 9th, with an increase of 239 in the past 24 hours.

Of today’s cases nationally; 2,088 are in Dublin, 862 in Cork, 469 in Limerick, 405 in Wexford, 320 in Waterford, with the remaining 2,744 cases located across all other counties.

There are now 1,421 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 125 patients in intensive care units.

The number of Covid-19 patients in hospital has more than quadrupled in the last two weeks, however the light at the end of the tunnel is that the HSE anticipate the arrival of one million vaccines a month and that is what the HSE are currently mobilising to undertake.

In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 17 deaths from Covid-19 were reported, with another 1,112 new infections confirmed.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the United States has now surpassed 22.09 million as of yesterday evening, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
The UK alone has passed 3 million cases during the pandemic, after the government announcing another 59,937 new cases.
The UK, sadly, also recorded another 1,035 fatalities from the virus, taking the total death toll to 80,868, one of the highest death rates in Europe, when compared to Italy.

There are 4,842 new additional virus cases reported today; some cases of which are the new Covid-19 variant that originated in South Africa. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 140,727.

According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, there have been 2,676 covid cases in total, here in Co. Tipperary up to Thursday last. There have been 1,019 new recorded cases in the past 14 days, ending January 8th, within the county; with an increase of 118 in the past 24 hours, also up until midnight, last night, January 8th 2021.

Of today’s cases nationally; 1,049 are in Dublin, 530 in Cork, 514 in Waterford, 405 in Wexford, 247 in Louth with the remaining 2,097 cases located across all other counties.

There are now 1,293 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 119 patients in intensive care units.

In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 9 deaths from Covid-19 were reported, with another 1,442 new infections confirmed.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at well over 89 million, with global deaths at almost 1.92 million.
