 Dancing Lessons in Thurles
The Club for Dancing, which was founded in 1971, have organised a set of dance classes commencing on Tuesday 6th September at 8.30pm sharp in The Premier Ballroom Thurles.

The course lasts for six weeks and costs a total of just €20 inclusive. Anyone, over 16 years of age, who like to learn the basic steps of social dancing should come along for a most enjoyable six weeks.
Learn the basic steps of The Foxtrot, Quickstep, Old Time Waltz and The Slosh, (A novelty dance).
The Club For Dancing have been running these classes successfully, twice a year, since 1994.
The last set of classes finished in March of this year and over 100 people attended for the six weeks. The classes are ideal for anyone preparing for their wedding day, going to a wedding or other important social event. (Between you and me, it helps to get the body shape looking good also.)
Whatever your reason, fun and value for money is fully guaranteed, so get out there and ‘shake a leg.’

If you are a lover of history and on the lookout for a Bargain Priced Weekend Away, then Thurles Co.Tipperary has to be your destination.
A new Tourism group “Hidden Tipperary,” in association with the Anner Hotel, Thurles, Thurles Library and the GAA are offering visitors a chance to relax, while experiencing at first hand, Ireland’s real hidden history, some of which has never been previously revealed.
The week-end break begins at 12.00 noon on Friday August 26th next and runs until 12.00 noon on Sunday 28th inclusive. But Note this year the event is strictly limited to just 100 visiting couples.
Total cost of this weekend is just €60 inclusive and will include 2 nights Bed and Breakfast at the beautiful modern Anner Hotel, Thurles, free guided tours to the Thurles GAA museum, the Thurles Famine Museum, a Thurles Ecclesiastical history lecture and a lecture on how to begin tracing your family roots.
Time will also be given to visitors to shop locally and to experience the friendly atmosphere of a midland town, which has singularly contributed more to Ireland’s past history than any other town in Ireland.
Over this 2 day event, lectures will be undertaken by GAA historian Seamus King, Church historian Monsignor Dr Maurice Dooley, Chief history researcher and archivist from Thurles Library and Curator of Thurles Famine Museum George Willoughby, who will also act as the weekend events co-ordinator.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is offering free admission to all heritage sites around Tipperary and Ireland this Wednesday, 3rd August 2011. This offer will be also be available on the first Wednesday of every month during 2011. A full list of all participating sites can be found on heritageireland.ie.
Here is a list of the heritage sites that are free in Tipperary this wednesday;
- Cahir Castle
- Rock of Cashel – There will be free parking in Cashel this Wednesday and on the first Wednesday of every month from the Cashel Town Council.
- Roscrea Heritage (Castle and Damer House) and the Blackmills
- Swiss Cottage
Other nearby attractions outside of Tipperary include Dunmore Cave, Jerpoint Abbey & Kilkenny Castle (Kilkenny), Adare Castle (Limerick), Clonmacnoise (Offaly), Emo Court (Laois) and Reginald’s Tower (Waterford).
According to the HeritageIreland.ie website visitors may experience delays at some of the busier sites. Access to some sites may be by guided tour only and therefore tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
This will hopefully provide a good boost to our local economy and increase awareness of some of our historic heritage sites.
 Nenagh Agri-Show
A large turnout is expected to turn out for the 2011 North Tipperary Agricultural Show taking place in Nenagh this August Bank Holiday Monday. (August 1st 2011)
Nenagh Co Tipperary grew and continues to flourished as an agricultural market town, and its Irish name means “The Fair of Ormond,” a reference to the old East Munster Ormond Agricultural Fairs, of which it was historically the site.
In its 134th year this popular annual show, promises be one of the biggest yet, with side shows which include paint-balling target competitions and a bucking bronco, aside from the many normally expected core animal attractions held at the Borrisokane Road, Showgrounds.
This annual event in North Tipperary, is renowned for being the counties showcase to a large variety of sheep, cattle, and poultry classes.
Comb the hair and wear your best frock, as UTV camera’s will also be present this year making a documentary on the art of cattle judging, focusing on local expert livestock judge David Wilson.
The show will also include craft work, expect to find exotic floral displays, quality baking and cooking demonstrations, needlework, art, photography and of course the much prized fruit and vegetable produce on display.
Overall family entertainment will be at a premium, with a pet farm on site inhabited by hares, rabbits, snakes, owls, hedgehogs, and even a vulture or two thrown in for good measure.
Other displays at this event will include trade stands selling and displaying their local crafts, a farmer’s market, and an equine store. Keep an eye out also for dog shows, Cossack horse riding, boxing displays, martial arts, horse and pony classes and show-jumping.
To be honest you do not have to come from a farming background be enjoy this event, but good cheap family fun for all, is truly guaranteed.
With St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, so why not take a night out and enjoy some traditional festive fun by attending the Tipperary Drama Festival, in Holycross, Thurles, Co Tipperary.
This major annual event takes to the stage for the week beginning the 18th March next to 26th March inclusive.
The hosts of this hugely attended Tipperary Festival, namely Holycross/Ballycahill Drama Group, have been successfully running this event since 1983.
This year the festival will present some great nights of theatre, performed by passionate theatre groups from all over Ireland, in their newly restored St. Michael’s Community Centre, beside the 13th century Abbey of Holy Cross, former which now boasts comfortable seating, including a balcony area, for some 500 of its patrons.
Curtain rises at 8.30pm nightly during the festival, except for the final night, which will be 8.00pm.
Admission: Each night €12, with Student’s and O.A.P’s enjoying an entrance concession of €6. Of course best value is their Season Ticket costing, I understand according to their Facebook, a mere €60 for all 9 performances.
