Death Of Michael Barry, Ard na Greine, Dublin Road, Thurles

It is with great sadness we learned of the death today, Monday 15th January 2018, of Mr Michael Barry, Ard na Greine, Dublin Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, and formerly of Ring, Clonakilty, Co. Cork.

A former retired manager of Centenary Co-op; Mr Barry passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Predeceased by his brothers Eddie, John, Neilus and Eugene, sisters Mary, Bernie and Eileen; his passing is most deeply regretted by his loving family; his wife Mary (née Phelan); daughters Margaret, Noreen, Patricia and Catherine; sons Michael, Gerard, Declan, Brendan, Aidan and Kevin; brothers Tommy and Fintan; sisters Kitty and Josie; grandchildren; great-grandchild; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; extended relatives; carers; neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements
The earthly remains of Mr Barry will lie in repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on tomorrow evening, Tuesday 16th January, from 5.00pm to 7.00pm.

Arriving at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles on Wednesday morning, 17th January, at 10.15am for Requiem Mass at 11.00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Body Of Male Recovered From River Shannon At Ballina

The body of a male, understood to be in his mid-50s, was recovered yesterday morning from a popular recreational area on the Tipperary side of the Shannon river.

The alarm was first raised when a passer-by became concerned having observed a motor vehicle parked close to the Ballina Slipway, in Co. Tipperary, at around 11.30am yesterday.

The emergency services, including an ambulance and rapid response advanced paramedic unit, the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard, Gardaí and members of the Killaloe fire service were alerted and responded to the scene, where they located a body floating approximately one kilometre from the town.

Despite the river being in fast-flow, the man’s body remained close to the shore and was quickly recovered by Coast Guard volunteers and the fire service personnel but alas was pronounced dead at the scene.

While Garda across the river in Killaloe have launched an investigation, they are understood to believe the death was a personal tragedy. The man’s body was taken by hearse to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) where a post mortem will now be carried out.

Woman Dead Following North Tipperary Car Crash

The only occupant of a car has died following a car crash on the M7 motorway early this morning. The single vehicle incident, involving a female driver, believed to be in her 70’s,  happened between Junction 24 (Toomevara / Nenagh) and Junction 23 (Moneygall) northbound, here in Co. Tipperary at around 7.00am.

Initial investigations indicate that the vehicle driven by the victim may have hit a barrier.  A section of the motorway between both Junctions is expected to remains closed for several hours, to facilitate a Garda forensic collision investigation.

This latest Tipperary fatality brings to 8 in number, the people killed on Tipperary roads to date in 2017.

A Christmas Bonus & An Irish Water Refund On The Way.

Cheer Up – A White Paper, showing a projection of revenues and spending for 2018, has been published, with same confirming that the present Government plan to reimburse previously paid water charges before Christmas, while also disbursing a Social Welfare ‘Christmas  Bonus’.

The White Paper also illustrates that the budget deficit for the current year will actually be better than forecast (0.3% of GDP), while next year’s deficit is forecast at 0%.

The Christmas bonus payment to long-term Social Welfare clients will come from a surplus in the social insurance fund for this year, and will be supplemented from existing resources in current spending.

Full details will be announced on Tuesday when the government announces its latest Budget details.
