Annie Cutz Ltd, is the latest new & modern business to open here in Thurles, County Tipperary. This new business, under the qualified management of Ann Marie Ryan, offers its customers the services of Qualified Hair Stylists, Colourists and Up-Stylists.
Situated on Thomond Road, South of Liberty Square in Thurles, at the premises formerly frequented by the ESB, this building’s interior has now been completely revamped, offering its clientèle an uncluttered, streamlined, sleek and open spaced modern style interior. Furniture is upholstered in leather adding richness to the space with counter tops in glass & polished chrome, all providing a cosy & comfortable atmosphere.
Ann Marie Ryan is no stranger to Thurles or indeed Tipperary people as a whole. Born in Holycross and currently residing in Borrisoleigh, thousands of her former customers will remember her, during her many years as a leading hair stylist at INC & HALO Hair Designs, as is indeed confirmed by the hundreds of Good Luck Cards, Mass Cards and Text Messages she has received in the past number of days, since opening her new premises.
Ann has chosen the position for her new premises well, being one of the few businesses now in the heartland of Thurles to provide totally free parking 365 days a year, thus saving her valued customers €1.50 per hour in normal car parking charges. Note: Direct admittance to the free parking area can be entered via the side of her own business premises on Thomond Road or through Ely’s Centra forecourt on Slievenamon Road.
Working with an experienced backup team consisting of staff members Suzanne Connors & Rebecca Maher, Ann Marie, based on over 12 years of professional experience, has chosen to support the new range of Revlon Professional Equave & Alfaparf Milano instant beauty products, same which are available directly from her Salon here in Thomond Road, Thurles.
Annie Cutz Ltd also offer their clientèle an early morning hair service, aimed to cater for the needs of wedding groups, from the privacy of the prospective brides own home, or from her Salon on Thomond Road, including pre-trial hair sessions.
We wish Ann Marie Ryan & Annie Cutz Ltd every success in this new & exciting enterprise.
Local Deputy Noel Coonan with President Michael D. Higgins in Áras an Uachtaráin
Noel Coonan TD has welcomed the allocation of 80 additional Tús (Irish Translation – Beginning.) places for County Tipperary as part of the first tranche of extra placements on the community work placement initiative. Both North Tipperary LEADER Partnership and South Tipperary Dev. Co. Ltd have been given 40 additional places.
“This is welcomes news for people who have been on the live register for over 12 months in Tipperary and who are in receipt of a Job-seeker’s payment from the Department of Social Protection. Work placements are provided by community, voluntary and not-for-profit organisations and the local development company matches the skill set of participants to available placements,” said Deputy Coonan.
The Minister for Social Protection today (6th February 2013,) announced details of the first tranche of an additional 1,100 places on Tús. This announcement will bring to just over 6,000 the total number of placements available on Tús. The additional allocations form part of the roll-out of 2,500 new placements announced as part of the Budget 2013 measures to underpin the Government’s efforts to support those who are long term unemployed.
Deputy Coonan explained: “Only last month the Minister announced an additional 2,500 places for the Community Employment programme bringing the total places available on that programme to 25,300. The additional allocations were determined following consultation with each of the 50 local development companies delivering Tús and taking into account the demand for placements locally,” concluded the local Fine Gael TD.
One would be forgiven for thinking that the above was a ‘Promotional Video,’ for the benefit of Auctioneers & Estate Agents.
Those who choose to view the above slide show do please understand, Thurles is the most wonderful place to live, to raise a family & to eventually retire. However in the case of this town presently our local community has become despondent, cynical, unenthusiastic & lifeless. Our business people, because of economic pressure, are being forced to uproot, move or just simply vanish.
In my walk around Thurles, yesterday, I believe I counted some 15 businesses which have closed in the past 9 months in less than a half kilometre stretch, from Westgate to Bowe’s corner alone. With the decline & closure of these businesses departed the hopes & dreams of not just business people, whether owners or tenants, & their landlords, but also some 67 dependant employees. Some have been able to afford to emigrate, while the rest have joined our growing social welfare queue.
Either way Thurles is now ‘For Sale,’ or ‘To Let,’ with little view of either buyer or tenant visible on our immediate horizons.
Some change in local leadership is now immediately required to recover lost fortunes, but with our national interest bill on public debt (forget personal private debt,) running at over €10billion or close to €2.800 for every man, woman & child still choosing to remain in this country, our very futures look bleak on this wintry Monday morning, January 28th 2013.
Good news for Thurles today as North Tipperary TD Noel Coonan welcomes the announcement of funding to NeverMind Games Ltd, Thurles, under the Enterprise Ireland Competitive Start Fund. This new Thurles enterprise, situated in the Thurles Chamber Enterprise Centre, on the LIT Tipperary Campus, Thurles, is one of 30 successful companies recently awarded funding.
The Competitive Start Fund provides young companies with the critical early stage funding to test the market for their products and services and progress their business plans for the global marketplace.
 Deputy Noel Coonan
The local Fine Gael TD stated: “This brings to 60 the number of innovative early stage start-ups supported under this fund in 2012. Access to early stage funding is vital for Tipperary’s community of entrepreneurs and we are working to nurture their ideas and enterprises. NeverMind Games Ltd is an innovative video game development studio based in Thurles and the entrepreneurs involved in the initiative have been rewarded for their creativity in this sector.Over the past year we in Government have developed a series of new finance instruments, including the Micro Finance Scheme, the Credit Guarantee Scheme, the €700million Seed and Venture Capital Scheme and the €850million NPRF funds.”
In announcing the news Deputy Coonan today also urged companies to apply for the first round of the 2013 fund, which is currently seeking applications.
“Fifteen companies are expected to benefit under this round, with a total of €750,000 available for investment. The closing date for applicants is Wednesday 23 January at 3pm. This call is open to start-ups from both ICT and Industrial sectors including sub-sectors such as Internet, Games, Apps, Mobile, SaaS, Cloud Computing, Enterprise Software, Life-sciences, Cleantech and Industrial Products,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
 Central Thurles
The Nenagh town council here in North Tipperary, in their wisdom, have decided to allow free parking in its car parks on Saturdays.
This new initiate comes into effect from February 1st 2013 and has been officially sanctioned by last week’s Town Council budget meeting.
While this initiative is expected to reduce the Council’s income by some €60,000 annually, it is generally accepted that this new proposal will now greatly assist in stimulating business entering the town and thus will also create the required level of fair play, when attempting to compete with other Nenagh periphery retailers, latter who currently are in a position to offer free parking all day, 365 days of the year.
Could Thurles Town Council now perhaps show similar flexible, in an effort to respond to our failing town centre business concerns? Is this now the perfect opportunity for Thurles Chamber of Commerce to pile on the pressure, on behalf of their business membership?
After all there will be no local Councillors & their expenses to pay in the not to distant future, thank God and the god like Minister Phil Hogan.
