Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon Recalled Due To Presence Of Listeria monocytogenes.

Yesterday, Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) recalled a batch of Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon, detailed herewith, due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The product, whose country of origin is Ireland; refers to Wrights of Howth, Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon; pack sizes: 120g, 240g, 350g; approval number: IE DN0022 EC; with Batch Code P13; use by date: 15.04.2023.

Nature Of Dangers Associated:

Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.

Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers and retailers are requested to immediately remove the implicated batch from sale and to display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Consumers are strongly advised not to eat the implicated batch.

Death Of Pearl McDermott, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Monday 10th April 2023, of Mrs Pearl (Margaret) McDermott (née Eviston), No 29 Elmwood, Dublin Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary; formerly of Loughmore, Templemore, Co. Tipperary and Navan, Co. Meath.

Pre-deceased by her husband Kevin, niece Theresa, nephew Denis, sisters May and Bridget, brothers Willie, Tom and Jerry, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; Mrs McDermott passed peacefully while in the care of staff at Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel.

Her passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving daughter Maria, Maria’s friend Peter, her sister Eileen Martin (Toomevara) and sister-in-law Sheila Curran (Brighton, U.K.), nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, extended family, neighbours in Thurles and Navan, her exceptional carers Irene and Josephine and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs McDermott will repose at Dan Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Lognafulla, Thurles, on Thursday afternoon next, April 13th, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening, before being received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles at 7:45pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning, April 14th, at 11:00am, followed by interment in Loughmore Cemetery, Templemore, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Sr. Carmel Ryan, Late Of Thurles, Co Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Sunday last, 9th April 2023, of Sr. Carmel Ryan, Presentation Sisters, Youghal, Co. Cork and late of Holycross, Thurles, Co Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her brothers Patrick, Mick, Fr. Jack, Jim and her sister Peg; Sr. Carmel passed away peacefully, at Apree Living, Ballinore Rd, Conna, Co. Cork, on Easter Day last.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her loving sister Nora, brothers Tom and Joe, nephews, nieces, Presentation Community, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

The earthly remains of Sr. Carmel will repose at Egan’s Funeral Home, Greencloyne, Youghal, Co. Cork on Friday afternoon, April 14th from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.
Her remains will be received into the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, The Strand, Williamstown, Youghal, Co. Cork to further repose for Requiem Mass at 12:00 noon on Saturday next, April 15th, followed by interment afterwards in North Abbey Cemetery, Youghal, Co Cork.

Death Of Carmel Long, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Tuesday 11th April 2023, of Mrs Carmel Long (née Kelly), Lower Ballingarry (South Riding), Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Clonfanlough, Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly.

Pre-deceased by her parents Mary and Michael; Mrs Long passed away peacefully, following a long illness most bravely borne and while in the care of staff at the Palliative Care Unit of Waterford University Hospital.

Her passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her heartbroken family; husband Patrick, son Michael, sister Chrissie, brothers Peter and P.J., nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, father-in-law Richard, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Her remains will be received into the Church of the Assumption, Ballingarry, Thurles on Thursday morning, April 13th, at 11:00am, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am.
Interment will take place immediately afterwards in Clonmacnoise cemetery, Co Offaly (Estimated Time of Arrival 2:30pm).

Artist Damien McCarron To Exhibit In Cashel Library, Co. Tipperary.

Cashel’s adopted son, Mr Damien McCarron will display his latest art exhibition in Cashel Library, Friar St, St. Francisabbey, Cashel, Co. Tipperary, during the month of April 2023.

Mr McCarron is an established artist, who trained at the Crawford Collage of Art & Design and is a former Curator of the Cashel Folk Village, Dominic Street, St. Dominick’s Abbey, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

He will, this month, showcase stunning local scenes painted in oil; together with mythical scenes printed on silk.

Mr Damien McCarron.

Mr McCarron was awarded the ‘Tommas Dammn Award’ in 2003, and has exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Annual Exhibition on two former occasions; in the Fenton Gallery, Cork, and in The Source Arts Centre, here in Thurles, as well as other local galleries in Tipperary and elsewhere.
