Death Of Gerard McHugh, Late Of Tipperary & London.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Saturday 7th March 2026, of Mr Gerard McHugh, late of Foilmacduff, Hollyford, Co. Tipperary and London.

Pre-deceased by his parents Jilly and Johnny, his brothers Paddy and Eddie and his sister Margaret; Mr McHugh passed away peacefully following a brief illness, while in the care of staff at Cluain Arann, nursing home, Tipperary.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving brothers Myles, John and Martin, sisters Helen and Maria, brother-in-law Walter, sisters-in-law Noreen and Mary, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr McHugh will reposr at Whites Funeral Home, Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary, (Eircode E34 WR83) on Monday afternoon, March 9th, from 5:00pm, before being received into the Church of St Joseph, Hollyford, at 7:00pm, same evening.
Requiem Mass for Mr McHugh will be offered on Tuesday morning, March 10th at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards in nearby Hollyford cemetery, Hollyford, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Sr. Elizabeth Ryan, Formally Of Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, today Saturday 7th March 2026, of Sr. Elizabeth Ryan, [(Cyril), Holy Faith Sisters], Glasnevin, Co. Dublin and formally of Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her parents John and Elizabeth, sister Mary (Buckley), brothers Pakie, Simon and John, brother-in-law Pat and sisters-in-law Maura and Alice; Sr. Elizabeth passed away peacefully while in the loving care of the staff at Marian House, Glasnevin, Dublin D11 .

Her passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; sister Sr. Philippa (Holy Faith Sisters) sister-in-law Masie, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended relatives, neighbours, friends, Holy Faith colleagues and staff/residents of Marian House.

Death Of Jimmy Costello, Formerly Of Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, on Tuesday 3rd March 2026 of Mr James (Jimmy) Costello, Ballybrack, Co. Dublin and formerly of Ballydavid, Littleton, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents Mary and Richard, brothers Paddy, Vincent and Richard, sisters Mary, Josie, Philomena and Teresa, brother-in-law Joe and friend Paddy Glynn; Mr Costello passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at Leopardstown Park Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Susan, son Paul, daughter Carol, grandchildren Abigail and Laura, his daughter-in-law Fionnuala, Carol’s partner Niall, sisters Kathleen, Peggy and Patricia (Canada), brothers Ger and Michael, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, friends and neighbours.

Death Of Kathleen O’Reilly, Formerly Of Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, on Monday 2nd March 2026, of Mrs Kathleen O’Reilly (née O’Donnell), Clondalkin, Co. Dublin and formerly of Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her beloved husband Harry; Mrs O’Reilly passed away peacefully at her place of ordinary residence.

Her passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; loving son Eric, her daughter-in-law MJ, grandchildren Shauna, Ben and Jason, great-grandchild Tadhg, her beloved partner Bobby, brother and sisters Billy, Ann and TJ, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Her remains will be received into the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Clondalkin Village, Dublin 22, on Saturday morning, March 7th, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am, followed by cremation at Newlands Cross Crematorium, Ballymount Road, Ballymount Great, Dublin 24, (Eircode D24 K1CY) at 12:30pm.

Tributes Paid As Cistercian Community Set To Leave Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.

Bishop Monahan Pays Tribute as Cistercian Community to Leave Roscrea for Mellifont.

Bishop Fintan Monahan of Killaloe has expressed deep sadness following confirmation that the Cistercian Community of Our Lady of Silence Abbey, Roscrea (formerly Mount Saint Joseph’s Abbey), is to relocate to Mellifont Abbey in Co Louth.

The Bishop noted that, since 1878, the abbey has been a cherished and faithful presence in the pastoral life of the Diocese of Killaloe, holding “a special place in the hearts of the people of Roscrea”, including all who prayed and worshipped there, generations of pupils, (former students, included former Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen and former Tánaiste Mr Dick Spring), and staff connected with the school on the grounds since 1905, and those who benefited from retreats and the hospitality of the guesthouse. He also acknowledged the importance of the farm on the college grounds to the wider local community.

As stated, the abbey was founded in 1878 by a group of 32 monks from Mount Melleray Abbey, County Waterford. A number of years earlier Arthur John Moore MP of County Tipperary had visited Mt Melleray petitioning for it. The church was later opened for worship in 1883, on 600 acres in Mount Heaton, Roscrea, and a Boarding school, Cistercian College, Roscrea, was founded in 1905.

Bishop Monahan paid tribute to the contribution of the monks and school staff to education, highlighting the respected tradition of the boarding school and its strong sporting ethos. He confirmed that the Cistercians will continue as patrons of Cistercian College, ensuring the Cistercian spirit remains central to school life.

He said the abbey’s greatest gift has been its spiritual witness, including the long-standing availability of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the enduring legacy of figures such as Dom Eugene Boylan OCSO.

While acknowledging local disappointment, Bishop Monahan said he understands the decision follows prolonged prayerful discernment and reflects wider rationalisation in Church life today. He offered gratitude to Dom Rufus and the community, assuring them of prayers and good wishes as they undertake this transition.
