Death Of Matt Ryan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Wednesday 31st January 2024, of Mr Matthew (Matt) Ryan, No. 57 Seán Treacy Avenue, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Tonagha, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents, the passing of Mr Ryan is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving family; his devoted wife Eileen, daughter Marie and son Shane, son-in-law Garreth, adored grandchildren Kirsten, Ryan, Aaryn and Conor, sisters Marian, Bernie and Colette, brothers Michael and Neil, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, extended relatives, former work colleagues at Bord na Mona, Littleton, Thurles and his loyal canine companion Molly.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Ryan will repose at Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Upper Kickham Street, (N75) Dublin Road, Thurles, on Saturday afternoon February 3rd, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening, before being received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles at 8:00pm same night.
Requiem Mass for Mr Ryan will be celebrated on Sunday morning at 11:00am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Martin Doherty, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Thursday 1st February 2024, of Mr Martin Doherty, Hillview Drive, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents Larry and Jane, brothers Paddy, Larry, Jack and Billy, sisters Peggy, Mary and infant Kitty; Mr Doherty passed away peacefully, following a long illness most bravely borne, while in the care of Staff of Ardeen Nursing Home, Thurles.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving family; wife Josie (née Tierney, Blakefield, Gortagarry Toomevara), daughters Mary-D (Ryan) and Geraldine (Hassett), sons Liam, Declan and Adrian, adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sons-in-law Tom and William, daughters-in-law Maria, Martina and Fiona, nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law Jane, Bridget, Pam, Chris, Eileen and Breda, brother-in-law Jim, extended relatives, former colleagues in Thurles Sugar Factory and the Cathedral Choir, good neighbours and many friends.

His remains will be received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles on Saturday morning, February 3rd, at 10:30am, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Put Out Your Bratóg Bríde Tonight For A Year of Better Health.

Have you ever heard of the Brat Bríde or Bratóg Bríde (roughly translating from Irish as Brigid’s Rag)?

It’s an old Irish tradition in honour of St Brigid. Long ago it was the custom to tie a small piece of cloth to a bush on January 31st, the eve of St Brigid’s Day, February 1st.

Overnight it was believed that the cloth would be blessed by St Brigid and conferred with healing properties. It was then worn under clothing to protect against sickness, relieve headaches and cure toothaches.

It was particularly important for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, because it was said to help women to produce enough nourishing milk to feed their babies.

This fascinating ancient tradition is currently being highlighted by the “Monasterevin Women’s Collective in Honour of St Brigid” and is among a host of initiatives and activities taking place across Ireland as part of Brigid 1500 celebrations this year, 2024.

Death of John Murphy, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday, Monday 29th January 2024, of Mr John Murphy (JJ), Phibsborough, Dublin and formerly of Horse and Jockey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Murphy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, while inthe care of staff at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Eccles St, Dublin 7.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving family; wife and best friend Marguerite, daughters Michelle and Joanne, sons Kenneth and Andrew, son-in-law Ken, adored grandchildren Shauna, Aimee, Callum, Leo, Inaya and Khaira, sisters Mary, Hannah and Pauline, sisters-in-law Rosemary and Gabrielle, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral cortège will be received into the Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King, Cabra Road, Cabra East, Dublin 7, on Saturday morning, February 3rd, at 9:50am to further repose for Requiem Mass at 10:00am, followed by cremation service at 12:00 noon, in Glasnevin Cemetery, Fingal Road, Glasnevin, Dublin, [D11 XA32].

Death Of Paddy Kinane, Formerly Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Sunday 28th January 2024, of Mr Patrick (Paddy) Kinane, Verdon Mews, Cork City, Co. Cork and formerly of Ardeen, The Mall, Templemore, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Kinane passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at Marymount University Hospital, Curraheen Road, Cork.

Pre-deceased by his parents James and Catherine, his sisters Noreen and Maureen, brothers Sean, Jimmy and Micheál; the passing of Mr Kinane is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his children Catriona, Roisin and James, grandchildren Darragh, Jarlath, Shane and Michaela, sisters Cecilia and Breda, niece Patricia and all his other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, treasured neighbours and friends.

His funeral cortège will be received into Ileigh Church, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Wednesday morning, January 31st, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in the adjoining graveyard.
