Covid-19 Update: Wed. 24th Feb. 2021 – 56 Deaths – 574 New Cases.

With Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions to remain until April 5th at least, the Department of Health has confirmed that there has, sadly, been 56 further death caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 4,237.

There have been 574 new additional virus cases reported within the republic. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception, here in the Irish Republic, at 216,870.

Of the cases today; 175 are in Dublin, 57 are in Limerick, 43 are in Kildare, 37 are in Galway, 35 are in Meath, with the remaining 227 cases located across 18 other counties.

In all, there have been a total of 4,835 virus cases confirmed within the borders of Co. Tipperary, to midnight February 22nd last, with 17 confirmed cases in the 24 hours prior to midnight February 23rd, and 300 virus cases confirmed over the previous 14 days, also ending February 23rd.

In Northern Ireland today, the Department of Health has sadly recorded two further coronavirus deaths and identified 260 further new cases of the disease.

There are 652 people with Covid-19 in hospital, and of that number, 137 are in ICU’s, according to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub.

Other News.
The expiry dates of driving licences has been extended in light of the ongoing disruption to licencing services, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic across the European Union.

People aged between 16 and 69, latter who are at very high risk of developing Covid-19 virus, have been moved up the Government’s vaccine allocation strategy list.
220,073 first doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered by the Health Service Executive (HSE) here in Ireland up to February 21th, with 131,898 persons having received their second dose.
An Tánaiste Mr Leo Varadkar has stated that he is confident that over 80% of adults will have at least one vaccination by the end of June 2021.

Meanwhile, the Government has confirmed that measures to support business, jobs and employment will remain in place until the end of June 2021. It follows the announcement that Covid level 5 restrictions are to remain in place across a number of sectors for weeks.

Meanwhile, the total worldwide number of cases identified up to 5:30pm this evening, now stands at well over 112.2 million confirmed cases, with global deaths almost 2.49 million.
