Two County Tipperary food businesses were served with ‘Closure Orders’ during July, while the Health Service Executive also took two prosecutions involving companies based in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.
Babylon Restaurant, a takeaway at 92–93 Irishtown, in Clonmel, received a ‘Closure Order’ under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act 1998.
A second ‘Closure Order’ was served on Elm Tree Farm Food Stall, while it was trading at the Clonmel Show at Powerstown Park Racecourse. That order was issued under the European Union (Official Controls in Relation to Food Legislation) Regulations 2020.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said Environmental Health Officers served 13 Enforcement Orders nationwide during July; of which 11 were Closure Orders and two were Prohibition Orders.
Reasons identified across the enforcement actions included inadequate controls to prevent cross-contamination, poor staff training, incorrectly labelled ready-to-eat food, defective refrigeration and inadequate cleaning.
Inspectors also encountered evidence of rodent and cockroach activity, serious accumulations of food debris, risks from sewage contamination and unsafe practices involving the defrosting and handling of frozen fish. The FSAI did not attribute every issue listed in its announcement to each individual business.
Separately, the HSE took two prosecutions during July in relation to businesses at Lisbunny Industrial Estate in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary:

FSAI chief executive Mr Greg Dempsey described the issues identified nationally as deeply concerning and said basic measures such as cleaning, pest control, safe food handling, staff training and effective food-safety systems are legal requirements.
He warned that enforcement action would continue where businesses failed to meet the required standards and placed public health at risk.
The remaining Closure Orders were served on businesses in Dublin, Offaly, Wicklow and Kerry. Prohibition Orders were issued to Ocras in Clonakilty and Rebel Ice Cream in Little Island, County Cork.
The details were published by the FSAI on today, Tuesday, August 11th, 2026. Closure and Improvement Orders remain listed on its website for three months after the relevant food-safety issue has been corrected, while Prohibition Orders remain listed for one month.
