Coronavirus Update Feb. 22nd 2022.

The Department of Health in the Republic of Ireland has confirmed 3,294 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

As of 8:00am today, there are 608 Covid-19 patients in hospital, of whom 54 are in ICU, a reduction of 26 on yesterday’s figure.

The leaders of the three Government parties in the Irish Republic, yesterday backed the recommendation from NPHET to end almost all remaining health restrictions from next Monday. While the government are advising people to keep wearing masks, same will no longer mandatory or underpinned by law.

However, understandably, some groups, including the Teachers’ Union of Ireland, the Irish Heart Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, the Asthma Society of Ireland, the Irish Kidney Association, the Irish Cancer Society and COPD Ireland, want the Government to delay the decision on mandatory masks.

There were 495 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, up from 443 on yesterday’s reported figures
Of those, 9 are in intensive care units, down three on yesterday.

Sadly, 5 more Covid-19-related deaths have also been reported in Northern Ireland today, bringing the total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in Northern Ireland since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,189.
