Today 1,128 New Covid Virus Cases On Island Of Ireland.

The Department of Health has been notified of 600 new cases of Covid-19 today, with 64 people being treated for the virus in hospital. The number of people in intensive care units remains at 16, unchanged from yesterday.

In Northern Ireland, a further 528 new cases were confirmed today, with thankfully no further deaths reported.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has confirmed that 69.8% of adults have had their first vaccination and 56.6% have been fully vaccinated.

Of some 200 people who were in ICU being treated for the virus over the past 6o days, only one had been fully vaccinated and 18 were partially vaccinated, thus proving the effectiveness of the various vaccines on offer.

With regards to indoor hospitality and travel; fully vaccinated people will begin receiving their ‘EU Digital Covid Certificates’ from today.

One million certs issued via email will be sent to people who were vaccinated via the Health Service Executive portal, while another million will be posted to those who were vaccinated by their GP; expected to arrive by the end of this week.
An Taoiseach Mr Micheál Martin said that the purpose of these certs is to protect people and to reopen safely.

Meanwhile, persons found to be using fake documents in order to avail of indoor hospitality can face fines of up to €2000 under new legislation, while plans are also being considered to include powers, enabling Gardaí to seek a court order to close down any such premises found flouting the law.
