Thurles Gardaí On Speed Check Patrol, Seize Dogs

Thurles Roads Policing Unit have seized eight dogs believed to worth in the region of some €5,000 in Co Tipperary two days previously, on June 4th, 2020.

Shortly before 8:00pm Gardaí were carrying out a speed check on the M8 motorway at Ashill, Thurles when they observed a van exceeding the speed limit.

The van was stopped and whilst speaking with the driver Gardaí heard dogs barking in rear of the van. Gardaí searched the vehicle and found eight dogs; believed to be valued in the region of €5,000.

The driver and passenger were unable to give any explanation as to the ownership of the animals; latter which were not microchipped.

The dogs were then seized by Gardaí and placed in a local animal shelter. While investigation are currently ongoing, however, no arrests have been made to-date.
