Tipperary Youth Found With Serious Head Injuries

A 14-year-old youth, who was assaulted last night, is today in a serious condition in hospital. We understand that the teenager suffered serious head injuries as a result of the assault, which occurred in Tipperary town, Co. Tipperary, at approximately 10.50pm last night.

People who were in the area at the time of the assault, reported the incident via the telephone emergency 999 number and Emergency Services quickly attended the scene before removing the youth to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel, for emergency treatment.

Gardaí confirm that they are investigating an “unprovoked attack” and have arrested a teenager in relation to the physical assault, latter whom is being questioned under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Tipperary Town Garda station. The teenage individual arrested can be held for up to 12 hours, however this period of detention can be further extended to a 24 hours detention period.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently being investigated, with the area where it happened (Lakelands / Rosanna Road vicinity) sealed off to allow for a full forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in or close to this specified area between 10.00pm and 11.00pm and who may have witnessed anything suspicious, to immediately contact them on Telephone 062-51212 or the Garda Confidential Line on Tel: 1800-666-111.
