Homeless Man Located Dead In Nenagh

gardaInvestigations are taking place into the sudden death of a homeless man, discovered on a street bench on Fr.Kenyon Street, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, yesterday afternoon (June 11th, 2015).

The man, who as yet has not been named publicly, is believed to be in his early 60’s and originally from Drogheda, in Co Louth. It is understood the man had only made an appearance in the Nenagh area for the first time over recent weeks.

A post mortem into his death is being presently carried out and, following standard procedure, the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have also been notified, because Gardaí had somewhat limited contact with the man, prior to his death. His death however is not being treated as in anyway suspicious at this early stage.

The dead man was originally spotted by passers-by; observed slumped across a bench on Fr.Kenyon Street, at around 6:30pm yesterday evening.

We understand that the man, who had already made himself somewhat popular in the area, had not presented himself to any known homeless service seeking assistance, within the north Tipperary area. Local people have expressed sadness at the man’s passing, in their midst.
