Death Of Jean F. Tiska

Jean Tiska, Kewanee, Illinois, USA R.I.P.

It is with great sadness we, belatedly, announce the death of Jean F. Tiska, 84, Kewanee, Henry County, Illinois, USA.  Jean sadly passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29th 2011, at her private residence.

Jean was born June 4, 1927, in Pittsfield, Mass., the daughter of Pierce, “Pete” and Catherine (Marshall) Hayes. The Hayes family were originally from Loughmore, Thurles, Co Tipperary, emigrating to America in the early 1800’s.  Patrick Hayes and members of his family greatly endeared themselves to many residents of Thurles and Loughmore, when they returned here on a couple of occasions recently, tracing their past history.

Jean married Edward Tiska, who preceded her in death in 2005, on April 7, 1947, in Pittsfield.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Pierce Jr.,”Bus” and Bobby. Jean was a member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Kewanee and was a former employee of Wethersfield Middle School for many years. She enjoyed antiques, traveling, reading and spending time with friends, family and grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph (Julie) Tiska of Greensboro and Stephen (Jani) Tiska of Kewanee; three daughters, Kathy (Jim) Hobbs of Atlanta, Ga., Joanie (Willard) Kennedy of Raleigh and Patty Tiska of Greensboro, nine grandchildren, James, Suzanne, Tiska Ann, Katie, Christine, Melissa, Cami, Nicholas and Jacob, also 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Ill., with Father Jerry Rafalko of the Holy Trinity Church officiating. Burial was in Wethersfield Cemetery, Kewanee.
