American Actor & Comedian Bill Murray Visits Semple Stadium, Thurles.

While acclaimed American actor and comedian Mr Bill Murray’s American motherland is instinctively more basketball than sliotar; more baseball bat than hurl and more NFL than GAA, today’s all Ireland quarter final double header in Semple Stadium didn’t seem to get “Lost in Translation”.


Mr Murray appeared to take great interest in the Cork vs Galway/Clare vs Wexford, double-header, as a guest of businessman Mr JP McManus today, in Semple Stadium, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Note: Mr Murray’s grandfather hails from Co. Cork, while his mother’s family have origins in Co. Galway.



Irish Hospitals Under Pressure From Covid-19 Warns Dr. Tony Holohan.

The Irish Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan is warning that hospitals are under again under increased pressure due to rising Covid-19 cases.

Last week, at a time when 355 people were hospitalized with the Covid virus, Dr. Holohan forwarded correspondence to government outlining its continued threat.

According to the Department of Health, just yesterday, June 17th, Covid numbers had increased to 515 cases with 26 weekly notified deaths from the virus.
There are currently 28 people in hospital ICUs suffering from the virus.

The latest figures from the Department of Health show that up to June 15th, 2022, a total of 7,442 people have sadly died here in the Irish Republic, as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Worldwide, the total number of deaths to-date are estimated at 6,317,953. Within the last 28 days alone, at least 40,561 deaths have occurred around the globe.

Death Of Sr. Aloysius Hourigan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death today, Saturday 18th June 2022, of Sr. Aloysius (Rosie) Hourigan, Ursuline Convent, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Brecon, Wales and Ballinglana, Lattin, Co Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her brother Seamus, sisters Sr. Phena, Sr. Mairead and Bernie; Sr. Aloysius passed away peacefully while under the care of staff at Ardeen Nursing Home, Abbey Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her sister Sr. Mary (Ursuline congregation, Cork), sister-in-law Mary (Hourigan), nephews James and Shane, their wives Ann and Margaret, grandnieces, grandnephews, Ursuline Community and congregation.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Sr. Aloysius will repose in the new convent oratory on tomorrow evening, Sunday June 19th, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, followed by evening prayer at 5:30pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 20th, at 12:00 noon, in the Boarding School Chapel, Cathedral Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in the convent cemetery.

Death Of Jimmy Butler, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great personal sadness that I learned of the death, today Friday 17th June 2022, of Mr Jimmy Butler, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Horse and Jockey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents Jack and Mary, his brother Danny, sister Eileen and brother-in-law Tom (Finneran); Mr Butler passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at the Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Siobhan (Kinnane), his son Fergal, adored grandchildren Maisie and Andy, daughter-in-law Eavan (Fogarty), brothers and sisters John, Hannah (Hookes), Mary (Ryan) and Paddy, sisters-in-law Niamh (Kinnane), Mary and Eleanor (Horse and Jockey), Eleanor (Cashel), brothers-in-law-David (Hookes, UK) and Jim Ryan (Shevry), nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, former colleagues in Murphys Machinery Littleton and Kilkenny, extended relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday afternoon, June 20th, at 2:00pm in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Upperchurch, Thurles, followed by interment immediately afterwards, in the nearby local cemetery.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Mr Butler, but due to distance or ill health are unable to do so; same can be viewed online HERE.

Specific batches of Dolmio Carbonara Pasta Sauce pouches and Dolmio Carbonara Stir-In Pasta Sauce are found to contain soya, which is undeclared on the labelling.

This may make the affected batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of soybeans.
