Death Of Tim Gleeson, Earl’s Hill, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Thursday, 28th July, 2022, of Mr Timothy (Tim) Gleeson, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin and formerly of Earl’s Hill, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his brothers John, Pat and Tom and his sister Margaret; Mr Gleeson passed away peacefully, at his place of residence, surrounded by his loving family.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his wife Mary, children Aileen, Michael and Aoife. Michael’s partner Natasha, Aoife’s partner Paul, Natasha’s daughter Ciara, sisters Nora, Mary and Breda, brothers Tony and Joe, brothers and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and wonderful friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Gleeson will repose at Staffords Funeral Home, Golf Links Road, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin on Monday afternoon next, August 1st, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
His body will be received into the Church of St. Anne, Portmarnock on Tuesday morning, August 2nd, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am; followed by interment in Balgriffin Cemetery, Ballygriffin, Co. Dublin.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Mr Gleeson, but are unable to do so; same can be viewed online HERE.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Wednesday, 27th July, 2022 of Mrs Ena Murphy (née Benson), Willmount, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Dr. Michael Murphy, her sister Dorothy, brothers-in-law John and Phil; the passing of Mrs Murphy is most deeply regretted by her children Patrice, Ann and John, treasured grandchildren Robert, Michelle, Katherine, Andrew and Emma, sons-in-law Richard and Dan, daughter-in-law Caroline, sister Pauline, nieces Ann, Ruth and Grace, nephew Paul and the extended Benson, O’Brien and O’Reilly families.

The earthly remains of Mrs Murphy will repose at her place of residence tomorrow evening, Friday, July 29th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
Her body will be received into the Church of St. Mary, Bailey Street, Killenaule, Thurles, to further repose for Requiem Mass on Saturday morning at 10:30am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in Crosscannon Cemetery, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Wednesday, 27th July, 2022, of Mr Dessie Ryan formerly Dun Lia, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents Seamus and Hannah and his brother Michéal; the passing of Mr Ryan is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Clair, son Ronan, grandchildren, daughter-in-law, brother Eamon, sister Jean, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Ryan will repose at Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Thurles on tomorrow evening Friday, July 29th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, before being received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles at 7:45pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, July 30th, at 11:00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Wednesday, 27th July, 2022, of Mrs Margaret (Peggy) Hayes (née Ryan), Newtown, Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mrs Hayes passed away peacefully at her place of residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her husband Michael, sons Oliver, Owen, Mickey, Thomas and Conor, their partners, grandchildren, brother Con, sisters Mary and Patricia, daughter-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours, friends and work colleagues.

Her body will be received into the 12 century Cistercian Abbey, Holycross, Thurles, on Saturday morning for to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment in Moyaliffe Cemetery.

November 16th, 1935 – Dancing Regulations In Cashel Town Hall.

Urban districts were created in 1898 by the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898. After the partition of Ireland in the period 1920–22, urban districts continued in the Republic of Ireland, while they were abolished in Northern Ireland in 1973 and in England and Wales in 1974.

The following regulations for the governing of dances where adapted by Cashel Urban District Council and published on November 16th, 1935.

The Town Hall shall be made available, from time to time, for dances organised for parochial, charitable, social, but never for mere political purposes.
Only Irish dances shall be allowed in the Town Hall.
The Jazz and what are known as ‘Slow Motion’ dances shall be taboo in the Hall.
Dances shall be ‘long’ or ‘short’ dances: ‘long’ from 7:30pm or 8:00pm to midnight; ‘short‘ from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. There may be three or four of each of these a year.
There shall be no dancing after midnight.
It is suggested that at ‘long’ dances light refreshments of tea, lemonade, fruit be available.
There shall be no weekly dances except for bona-fide parochial or quasi-parochial learners of Irish dancing.
Any person’s or party proved guilty of misconduct on the floor, either of morals or of drink, shall be removed and shall not be admitted to further dances.
Indelicacy in dress on the part of women dancers to be instantly approved by the person’s in charge; extravagance in dress on the part of our girls – especially of the working class – to be discouraged.
There shall be no parking of motor cars in or near the dancehall premises.
There shall be no retiring from the hall except when people are leaving for good.
Only the parishioners of Cashel and Rosegreen, those also within a radius of 2 miles of Cashel, and outsiders well known to the dance committee and guaranteed by them, shall be admitted to these dances.
Boys and girls under 18 years to be admitted to none of these dances except to the learners dance.
To get rid of the dance fever, it is recommended that our dancehall be closed down now till Christmas.
If is respectfully suggested that the first dance to be held in the City Hall shall be a non-party parochial dance, and that the proceeds be given to purchase seeds and manure for the poor of the new cottages.
