The last of this years (2022) Irish Citizenship Ceremonies will be held on Monday next, December 5th, and Tuesday December 6th, in the INEC Killarney, Co. Kerry.
Those presiding over the ceremonies will include Minister of State Mr James Browne TD; Minister of State Ms Anne Rabbitte TD; retired High Court Judge Mr Bryan MacMahon and retired District Court Judge Mr Paddy McMahon who will confer Irish citizenship on some 3000 people.
On Monday, there will be three ceremonies at 11:00am, 2:00pm and 4:30pm. There will be one ceremony only on Tuesday at 11:30am.
Minister Mr James Browne will be presiding over Monday’s ceremonies and Minister Rabbitte will preside over Tuesday’s ceremony.
Irish hospitals have recorded their worst November ever in 2022, with regards overcrowding, according to latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).
Over 12,624 people were unable to access a bed in Irish hospitals in November, with over 563 children left resting on trolleys.
As Tipperary politicians wander about aimlessly, making no effort to demonstrate leadership; the most overcrowded hospital in the Irish Republic was University Hospital Limerick, latter supposed to be serving North Co. Tipperary, with some 1596 patients without a bed over the 30 day period.
In second place was Cork University Hospital with 1334 patients; followed by Letterkenny University Hospital with 1108 patients; Sligo University Hospital with 783 patients and Galway University Hospital with 703 patients.
Meanwhile, the Minor Injury Unit in Nenagh, North Co. Tipperary was closed today, due to unclarified staffing issues. Patients in need of assistance were being asked to travel to Ennis hospital (119km [74mls] or 1hr 30min drive subject to traffic) or to St. John’s acute General Voluntary Hospital located in Limerick City, (some 110km [69mls] or 1hr 15min drive, subject to traffic).
This situation is no longer acceptable or indeed supportable in 21st century rural Ireland.
A resident of Thurles, Co. Tipperary, named as Mr Mark Beresford with an address at No. 41 Gortataggart, Thurles, Co Tipperary, who stands accused of fracturing the cheek of 52-year-old Cork taxi driver, latter named as Mr Willy Lufuluabo, has had his case adjourned in order to prepare the book of evidence.
The incident is understood to have occurred at Curraheen Road, Bishopstown, Co. Cork, over one year ago, on May 1st, 2021. You can read the background to this story HERE.
In order to prepare the book of evidence, Mr Justice Olann Kelleher (Cork City) has now put the case back for hearing until February 13th, 2023.
Initially, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had stated that this case could be dealt with summarily at Cork District Court. However, Mr Justice Colm Roberts refused jurisdiction for summary disposal, having read the medical report on the taxi driver’s injuries, and refused to accept jurisdiction; stating the case was too serious and was a matter for trial by ‘Judge and Jury’ at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
On Monday afternoon last (November 28th, 2022) at approximately 3.30pm; armed with a search warrant members the District Drugs Unit at Clonmel Garda Station carried out a search in the Moyglass area of Fethard, in South Co. Tipperary.
During the course of that search and pending analysis, drugs including Cannabis Herb, Cannabis jellies, Cannabis Resin and Magic Mushrooms, all with an estimated street value of some €5,500 were seized together with over €2,500 in cash.
A male was arrested and detained at Clonmel Garda Station, held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, before later being released pending submission of a file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, (DPP).
The search was conducted as part of Operation Tara, the goal of which is to protect communities from the scourge of illegal drugs in line with An Garda Siochana’s mission of Keeping People Safe.
The announcement came with a seasonal graphic heading of:- one galloping reindeer, two tied parcels, to silver pine cones and 6 silver dangling balls, stating that Thurles town during Christmas 2022, would be given an extra 15 minutes of free parking. This initiative (try not to laugh) “is designed to promote local trade and to encourage support for town traders, during the festive season”.
Then came the real joke, (laughter allowed), “Please shop local this Christmas”.
TMD Council officials are taking local residents for complete fools.
The compliments of the season are then offered by Ms Sharon Scully, (Thurles District Administrator) on behalf of Tipperary Co. Council.
To date all parking in Thurles Car Parks had been granted 15 minutes free parking, all year round, and now for the Christmas shopping period, beginning December 1st, 2022, is to be increased by a further 15 minutes to 30 minutes; (or did Ms Scully mean 30 minutes plus the 15 minutes already in vogueestablished). Not that same would offer any further great advantage.
What Ms Scully has failed to realise is that parking in the Liberty Square town centre no longer exists except for handicapped parking spaces and loading bay areas.
So what shopping can you do in 30 minutes. Can you treat you friends to a cup of coffee; buy a lunch; try on an article of clothing, or visit a bank ATM?

Why are Thurles Municipal Council officials and councillors permitted to discriminate against small local traders, in favour of foreign giant supermarket chain, leaves me totally confused.
Where stands Thurles Chamber of Commerce, latter a local organization of businesses and companies in Thurles, whose intentions boast “to develop and further the interests of local companies and businesses”?
Has Thurles Chamber of Commerce now been fully taken over by local councillors, in the hope of gleaning crumps of secret info from politicians?
While I hate to say this, but councillors were informed at a recent meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District [North Tipperary – just 23 miles (37kph) from Thurles and governed by the same Tipp. Co. Council] that from Saturday December 10th, 2022, until Monday December 26th, there will be three hours of free parking, within local authority car parks in Nenagh town, available on a daily basis.
The discrimination continues, to the detriment of Thurles town, with once again, nothing for our Local Property Tax.
